What bike have you ridden and really shouldn't have.? 🤫

Post by Dodgy69 »

When i was 16, I vaguely remember getting home on my fizzy in the knowledge that my mum, dad and older brother were out, for a good while yet.

Parked the fizzy up, went in house and got keys for brothers bike. 750 bonnie around 1978, the squarer tank, like the jubilee. Pushed it down the road a 100 yards or so, hoping neighbours wouldn't notice. Kicked it up and off i went to my mates dad's pub.

Not sure if I got away with it, because it ran out of petrol quarter mile from home and had to push it back.

I denied everything. 🙂👍

Ducati 916. Thank fook i never just bought one, which may even have been on the cards at one point as its probably the only SUperbike I've ever liked. Anyway, went to the end of the road and turned round and gave it back. It was horrible at everything. I think they come into their own on the track, but as a road bike, i'd rather walk.

Ducati 748. Plank like handling, unengaging, unexciting and weak engine. Looked nice but never wanted to ride it.

None really. Just 2 bikes I rode but really shouldn't have bought.

Ist gen R6, it only had two speeds; zero and over 140. It was impossible for me to ride it sensibly.

That's about all I can think of too: the 2 Harleys I test rode a few years ago. Both were dynamically, mechanically, and soulfully awful.

Mk1 Ducati Monster - hugely disappointing after all the hype that surrounded it when I was a yoof. I think I'd have preferred not to know.

"A chopper" - yeah I know they're not all the same, but some are really, really unpleasant to ride in so many ways!

A Virago 250 cc , with my wife on the back - into the wilds of Australia just behind Cairns
A Harley I hired in Oz - that was maintained by a chimp who thought electrics were merely an option.

My neighbour has that and another (I can't remember what it is but it's much more cruiser and less tourer than the EG) and I've ridden them both and thought "WTF?"

I rode one on a few occasions,it belonged to one of my mates.
He was racing at the time & reckoned that riding on the road slowed him down for racing,so I got the honour of taking it for a spin every few weeks. No one else understood why I prefered to ride my FZ750 instead of the 916.I think they'd have changed their opinion if they ever rode it...

1979 cb400f , very overrated but lovely to look at, I refused to buy one having ridden one but could have bought one cheap which would be worth lots more by now.

Every bike i rode on the road from about 1983 to 1988 apart from my GS125 as thats the only one i had a valid license and insurance for despite owning an XS400 and RD250LC which were ridden daily for all of 87 and 88 ...oops.
