Re: MONOCOQUE MAGIC: A RARE HAGON YAMAHA HL500 MOTOCROSSER
Looks like the kind of thing that shows up at Bassenthwaite motocross track VMC every once in a while, its more like an old style scrambler track than modern MX so has less jumps and its got longer between corners.
Loads of old Maicos (with Bill Browns being at Lillyhall thats no surprise) a few CCM's, old YZ's and so on.
Quite surprising how some of em hoss on.

I'll take it. Mine's a ristretto.

Its not an art project build It’s a 40 year old race bike from a time people were trying and building different things, compared to bikes of it’s day it may have gone ok.Potter wrote: ↑Sat Feb 26, 2022 10:53 am Sorry to be the fly in the ointment but that's everything that's shit about these art project builds, it has absolutely no purpose in life, it would be rubbish on the road and rubbish as a motocross bike, and a pain in the arse to clean.
Zero point to it other than to park it up and drink soy latte whilst you chat to other metrosexuals with annoying nasal voices.

Yeah, none of them old CCM's had a chromed frame. Nore any old Triumphs, no siree.

It's not chrome, it's highly polished ally.

Polished ally? Pah.
Next thing they'll be wearing barbour jackets, tweed hats and moving to warmer climes cos they're cold.

Its the thin end of the wedge I tells ya.

It's a bit shiney, my memory of the Hagon bikes is that they were reasonably successful in early 80s 4 stroke MX, but in the 80s only perverts rode 4 stroke MX bikes.
I'd love an IT175, but they're silly money these days.

It's like painting a 40 year old telly with yellow paint and selling it at a silly price.

Dunno about that one but I've seen Bill Browns son hammering around Bassenthwaite track on a twinshock Maico a few years ago and he sure as hell wasn't taking prisoners.
I'd be surprised if anyone on here could keep up, just a good efficient rider not wasting any energy.

Re: MONOCOQUE MAGIC: A RARE HAGON YAMAHA HL500 MOTOCROSSER
My 1980 YZ125 handled superbly, it was light and the geometry was just right, God knows how good it would be with cartridge forks. The drum brakes were pathetic and the engine had the narrowest power band of any bike I've ridden, so it wasn't all beer and chips.

I could still whup most folk on here round Cadwell Park on a CB500. Doesn't make that bike a perfect choicedemographic wrote: ↑Sat Feb 26, 2022 3:47 pmDunno about that one but I've seen Bill Browns son hammering around Bassenthwaite track on a twinshock Maico a few years ago and he sure as hell wasn't taking prisoners.
