Not exactly sure how relevant this is but I used to be able to just put therevcounter into duck duck go search engine and this site was right there in the first page of results, recently I've had to put therevcounter.co.uk to get it.
Dunno if Googles the same cos I've never tried it.

Doesn't worry me as we're not related to therevcounter in any way at all now. Well, apart from the userbase mostly having come from there.

The figures though, yeah i'm a little disappointed that our corner of the world isn't growing in terms of users/visitors etc.

However, the content us little band of merry people post, is actually fabulous !

Is it related to Covid lockdown, furlough, working from home?

As life got back to normal folk had less time for typing stuff on the net.

I think it's more related to us being just a small part of the internet :D

I did a 'motorbike forum uk' search on Yahoo and i didn't find us for a long long way down the pages... So clearly despite us being popular with ourselves, we're not necessarily massive in search engine world.

Apart from more content, there's very little we can do about that :D

But your search wasn't for 'content'.

I haven't done any SEO stuff for years. Back then it was about (good ie relevant) inbound links, good content and sprinkling suitable tags/keywords.

For SEO 'success', you need to think like a customer. How what where will they search, etc.? *If* that's important for the site.

Ahh, shit, sorry.
Had wine before posting last night and was being pestered by two enthusiastic pups so meant to say revtothelimit and revtothelimit.co.uk not TRC stuff instead.

That may also depend on what you've visited before? I'll try it on a server tomorrow with no profile.

Well the stats haven't really changed much.... it seems of course we've found our little niche in the internet, but newbies and especially newbies who join, post and become and stay active, are quite hard to find. I've still not really got a solution for it, but i'm not convinced there's a lot i can do about it either.

Well, i could, probably i could start a decent FB page (which GP setup) and spam the crap out of the world with stuff to try and drag people here.. but to be honest... it's not me... i don't do/like FB, so i won't bother.

Sometimes, we have what we have and have to accept it. :D

On the subject of finding us by internet search- Weeksy asked when I joined how I found us and I never answered but I searched for "Rev To The Limit Forum", not just "Rev To The Limit" and found it easily.

I've put a sticker on the front of my bike and my lid and went on tour - no one asked about it :eh:

I have recommended it to a few biker friends, but they are younger than me and if it's not Facebook, they don't know how to use it. I'll keep recommending it.

Those stats are cheap and very low effort, to get the years unique visitors they have added the month totals which is very sloppy. The stats have value but they could be misleading, more important stats would be around identified users and postings.

There are other stats available... but i've not looked much into it. Our traffic though hasn't changed much in terms of 'posters', we're not getting the newbies in often, the ones we do mostly come and go, i can count on one had the newbies who've stayed round and post often.

The 2022 Stats are here for everyone.... Once again, after the heights of 2021 the trend continued to fall i'm afraid.

Not that the forum is in any danger... but it's certainly not growing, as has been seen by the userbase/contents/posters. I don't have any idea at this stage how we could improve that though.

Weeeell - 2022 looks like it was at least 'consistent' in terms of visits, which is good (I'd expect a tail off in Dec tbh).

Admittedly it's not 'growing', but I think it would be wrong to think it's 'stagnating' (for that I'd expect to see a steady drop in visits/pages/visitors).

In terms of 'growing' the traffic, I'm not really sure what to suggest. It seems to me that less and less people are using forums, preferring instead the more facile UI of Facebook groups, which I hate, I have to admit it's an easy UI to use for a simple 'hi there, here's a question' type stuff, but for genuine discussion it's crap.

Most SEO these days is paid for stuff I believe (although I got out of that side of things about 4-5 years ago now).

We could have a sustained campaign from us forum regulars to point new people at the forum if we see them asking questions on Facebook groups, but then, you never really know what you're going to get in terms of the type of user. (I only really read BMW and classic bike fb groups.... not sure you'd want them weirdos on here! ;) :D )

SEO and Google are a problem at the moment. There's been recent changes with Google search engines that finds a lot lot less 'stuff' and a lot more shops/retailer data, it was a known thing and an attempt to improve spending and the economy etc. It's affected many other forums, but that's only the last 8 weeks.
