Chain maintenance
I normally just use one of those chain brushes after dosing the chain with WD or paraffin etc. This would be easier, but i'd not use petrol in it. I love a gadget, and I can see the merits of this, but I'm not sure id buy one of these. Anyone got one?

Re: Chain maintenance
a new chain would have to be a LOT more expensive for me to consider that much effort.

Re: Chain maintenance
So WD40 knackers O-rings? does it fook for a quick clean job
But petrol is fine is it? fook off
What's wrong it a paraffin soaked rag? I'll tell you what, fook all, and it works and it's cheap and it's saving the planet.
How is he gonna clean his whizz bang do hickey when all the brushes are coated in grease and crap? he ain't, it's going in the bin within 6 months

Re: Chain maintenance
15-20 minutes?
He could've had it done with a rag and paraffin long before he'd opened the box and faffed about.

Re: Chain maintenance
I admit I'm not the best at keeping my bike clean, but keeping the chain in good nick is something I do regularly and I'd be fooked if I would use one of these things on a motorbike.
I bought a similar contraption for my mountain biker last year and it has been used exactly one time because it's more faff than it's worth. A rag does the job perfectly well.

Re: Chain maintenance
Looks like a waste of time and money and you'd end up with a filthy chain cleaning tool that you'll then have to clean.

Re: Chain maintenance
A few years ago I was given one of those Motul chain cleaning brushes foc,so I thought I'd give it a try.
Tip number one, don't wear a white t-shirt while doing this job.
Tip number two, don't bother with the brush/tool in the first place.
At least I had another fresh rag for cleaning the chain.

Re: Chain maintenance
WD40 does knacker o rings, they'll go white and crumbly if you soak them in it, so do most solvents including paraffin, petrol and 3 in 1 oil.MrLongbeard wrote: ↑Mon Feb 14, 2022 1:12 pm So WD40 knackers O-rings? does it fook for a quick clean job

If you want to use a liquid to clean the chain use clean engine oil, any cheap shit will do.
Personally I'm not a massive fan of O ring chains, they're more trouble than they're worth, I'd rather fit standard chains twice as often.

Re: Chain maintenance
Go back and read what I wrote, we ain't talking about soaking 'em in it, just a quick spray and wipe.Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Mon Feb 14, 2022 1:43 pmWD40 does knacker o rings, they'll go white and crumbly if you soak them in it,MrLongbeard wrote: ↑Mon Feb 14, 2022 1:12 pm So WD40 knackers O-rings? does it fook for a quick clean job

Double meh, I don't think it'd do any harm soaking in it for months, and I've got a belt drive so

Re: Chain maintenance
I always use Motul chain cleaner, it’s always worked best for me then finish off with their chain lube, I also use the chainmate for lubing the chain which works perfect.

Re: Chain maintenance
3 sided chain brush and an MT coffee jar, half full of paraffin. Wipe with rag and re lube. Yes, it must be a coffee jar.
