That's an awful lot of money, there was a 0 miles one at the Stafford show in 2019 for £28,000, I seriously considered buying it, but I thought it was too much money as I wouldn't be buying it as an investment, I doubt if that one will sell at that price.

I also think a 2000 onwards GSXR750 is a better bike.

I've no idea what it's value is.... but it's a LOT to ask for it.

You'd have to see what one sold for, but I suspect that if you needed to sell it reasonably quickly the value would be about £28K, but it is very, very gorgeous.

IIRC weren't they £24k when new... which was a lot of money back in 1999.

I also seem to remember that back in the late 90's no one wanted RC45's and you could buy a brand new one for less than £9k, which was the price of a new R1 at the time.

If I have my sums right, £24k in 1999 is equivalent to £44k now. Glad I didn't buy one and store it for 23 years.

The R7 needed the full race kit to be competitive in club racing, which doubled the cost, feck knows what Yamaha spent on the ones that Haga raced in WSB.

At $32,000, the price of admission was steep and upgrades weren't far behind. Yamaha offered two race kits for the R7. One of which cost over $900 (at the time) and bumped the horsepower up to 135 while a $12,000 kit returned 162 ponies

Bah...buyers were just lucky it's actually road legal! Homologation specials aren't supposed to make sense from a rational purchase POV

The R7 was the height of unobtainable unobtainableness for me when I was first into bikes. For me it was way more desirable than anything else, probably cause it was such a narrow niche. It's not the suped up version of some existing model. There is the 20 grand R7 or there is nothing. You can't get the cooking version of it because it doesn't exist.

Obviously in reality its related to lots of other Yamaha stuff, but its uniqueness is what made it special for me.

I think he only posted a picture of it to remind me I could have bought one for £5K in 1996, though I still think the YZF750R I did buy was a better bike to ride.
