I've never really understood why that engine gets people weak at the knees. I mean yeah it's an il6, other than the z13 or maybe the Benelli from the same era I can't think of any others. That's not to say I wouldn't like to try the motor in a package not hamstrung by a 70s/80s chassis!

But anyway the overall bike design is ok, nothing new there though really. Put an il4 in there and you'd probably walk past it.

CBXs are incredibly smooth to ride, especially for a late 70s bike, no idea how they compare with modern bikes as I haven't ridden one since 1986, when I could have bought one for £1400 but couldn't really afford to run it.

I know someone who hydraulic locked one by parking it on it's side stand overnight and the tried to start it on the side stand.

I don't know how many of them are left, but I still look at a bike like that and feel a little sad an original has been hacked about and destroyed.

Looks great in profile, but I notice there are no photos taken from head on, or rear on (ooh, Matron...), 'cos it would just be so ridiculously wide. I realise that this girth is pretty much inevitable with a transverse 1000cc 6 cylinder motor, but it must severely limit useability and ground clearance. I've always regarded them as an engine in search of a chassis, and I seem to recall that being the private opinion of the TT travelling marshals who used them briefly in the late 70s.

There were also reports of racers being pissed off at being overtaken by a travelling marshall on a road bike...

I know someone with two of them, a twin shock one and a pro-link one, he bought the Pro-Link one to the Copdock show a couple of years ago, they're physically large bikes, certainly larger than I remember them being.

There's summat about the CBX. I was 18 hooning around on my Kettle thinking I was Barry Sheene. It was as quick as anything I could imagine.

Then Honda brought out the CBX and stuck 2 fingers up to the world. It blew everything away.

Clicking on this I expected to hate it cos I've never really had the love for CBX 6's, they were big showy things that were mostly ignored by my brothers and their mates who had Z Thous, GS Thous and RD 250 type of stuff.

But, it actually looks quite nice, I kind of like it.

When I was 17 and riding my 350ypvs there was one at the local bike meet, I commented there’s no way that would wheelie…….by chance the owner as he pulled off stood it straight on the back wheel and went through the gears. Later found out he was also local and known for wheelies, went by the name of Jonno. Fast forward 35 years we moved into our new work unit and 2 doors down is a machine shop, bloke that owns it in his 60’s, has a nice modded cbx and goes by the name of Jonno. Same bloke same bike

I get the whole lobsterback bend thing with twostroke expansion chambers cos they're cones, not pipes
To my eyes, they could have just bent most of those headers.

edit, they do look reet purty... even if they are kind of unnecessary.
