How long do rotors last?

Post by irie »

Have Shimano RT-86 180mm rotors and BR-M6100 calipers.

Front brake squealed like fuck so fitted new pads. After bedding in still squealed. Took the rotor off and cleaned it - been destroyed in less than 6 months but to be fair have been blasting through a lot of shitty mud.

Been using sintered pads, will try resin pads.

What constitutes it being destroyed?

Pitted and scored, don't think scotchbrite will fix it.

Edit: you can feel it when you run a fingernail over it.

the disks on my cannondale were down to min thickness somewhere around the 1300 miles mark.

bear in mind I'm a fat fuck, on a heavy ebike, mainly riding laps of some pretty steep singletrack (slowly)

Not sure that honestly means they're dead. I've had and probably still have plenty that look scored and work, fine.

Got a new one coming so I'll fit that with some new resin pads.

But since you reckon it's worth a try I'll use scotchbrite and afterwards a polisher to try to remove the striations. If it works then I'll owe you.
