Re: Adv bikes on track
The 44 Teeth / KTM one was something we did @ Pembrey last season - Phil used to race with Alister so it was good to catch up. Was supposed to mention PBTD's but it seems it's got ''lost on the cutting room floor'' - but at least u can see our stickers. And those coming to us later in the year can see which way to go.

My fav is a French rider on a Deauville - complete with panniers - harassing sports bikes at Circuit Carole... it's a classic.

Re: Adv bikes on track
That looks staged to me. Some of the corners look way to slow from the sports bike riders but no great idea about real speed as the Honda speedo cable is disconnected/broken.

Re: Adv bikes on track
Been to Croix a few times and it’s a nadgery little track with pretty much only the main straight where a big sports bike can properly get going but even then the Dullville pilot is doing well to play as he isThe Spin Doctor wrote: ↑Mon Jan 10, 2022 11:36 pm My fav is a French rider on a Deauville - complete with panniers - harassing sports bikes at Circuit Carole... it's a classic.

Re: Adv bikes on track
Back in the day, on tracks like Three Sisters and Flookburgh the big bikes didn't get a look in.
Best bike was an F2 350LC

Re: Adv bikes on track
You had an F1, the F2 is slower than the F1 because the cdi is shite.
But a proddy race YPVS 350 does about 130mph, a GSX1100 did about 135mph, the YPVS handles a lot better and can accelerate out of corners better despite having 60% of the power of a GSX1100.

Re: Adv bikes on track
Sorry. I wasn't clear. Formula 2 was a racing class. 350 Proddy bikes with any tuning you like and big carbs and Spannies. Almost the speed of a TZ but with tractability of the LC.Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Tue Jan 11, 2022 3:03 pmYou had an F1, the F2 is slower than the F1 because the cdi is shite.

Re: Adv bikes on track
I'm guessing he means an F2 as in the racing class (ie basically a TZ motor) spec, rather than a proddie RD350F2
Dunno what about Flookburgh is, but Three Sisters really is a go kart track though- only ~1km lap

Re: Adv bikes on track
at aberdare park road races it sounds like the 600s only briefly get into 3rd at the end of the straight, the track is only a smidge over a mile long.
The quads racing there are utterly bonkers and terrifying to watch.
A great day out

Re: Adv bikes on track
My best racing result on my RD was at Three Sisters, the big bikes we gridded with that would normally lap me somewhere like Oulton didn't stand a chance

I was hoping that was going to have the engine size on, bugger.
1. 250LC
2. RD250
3. 250LC
the rest 750cc+ bikes.
(oh it was pissing it down too).

Re: Adv bikes on track
Sorry my mistake, yes F2 LCs were bloody fast, a Len Manchester one went through the TT speed trap at 165mph according to Motorcycle Mechanics in 1984 (I must have been seriously impressed by this to remember it after all this time)Yorick wrote: ↑Tue Jan 11, 2022 3:07 pmSorry. My Stan Stephens stage 2 YPVS went from indicating 125mph to 135mph just by fitting a pair of Lomas F2 exhausts, it was tractable enough to use as a road bike without any problems.

Terry Beckett built the whole caboodle for someone to do the Manx. They pulled out so he let me have it all for £300 plus my engine.Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Tue Jan 11, 2022 3:23 pmSorry my mistake, yes F2 LCs were bloody fast, a Len Manchester one went through the TT speed trap at 165mph according to Motorcycle Mechanics in 1984 (I must have been seriously impressed by this to remember it after all this time)Yorick wrote: ↑Tue Jan 11, 2022 3:07 pmSorry. 34mm Mickey Rooneys and Swarbrick pipes
Good enough for the outright lap record

Re: Adv bikes on track
My brother managed to get out in the unlimited four stroke race in the Plum Pudding event at Mallory Park back in mid-80s... it was his first visit and he tacked onto the back of the wrong group in the paddock. By the time they black-flagged him, he was running in 5th...
...on a Honda MT125R mk3
And Damon Hill regularly ate the big bikes for breakfast on the Brands Indy circuit on his TZ250.
