I've only used one once and am a fan. Now back on the bike and I'm considering one. I've only got a Giant Anthem ( might treat myself to a new bike if I can keep up with the riding), but have trying to see what sort of post would be good for me.

Seen this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/193474120833. Would that be OK? I've no idea if 150mm is right for me ( I'm 1.88m). Also, are they easy to fit/ is this the sort of thing I can drop off at Halfords and they will fit it for me?

Well, there's a question.

1. 150mm is plenty... Although some do go a bit bigger now, but 150mm will be fine.
2. Depends if your frame has routing for inner stealth dropper posts, you'd have to check on somewhere like singletrackworld.com or see if you have any little holes just above where your pedals are on the frame.

Like that, that's where the cable usually routes.
3. Halfords, mmmm maybe... but i'd rather give it to someone a bit more clued up... you have any other places ?
4. How do you know it's the right diameter for your frame ? (being a Giant and your bike a Giant, it may be.. but may not either)

Depending on your interpretation of the laws, i'd happily fit it of course, it's well within my skillsets and i could do the Shockwiz at the same time over BH weekend if you can get it. You can then be my +1 for a ride too

So if i measure the diameter of the post hole ( excuse my terminology) then that would help?

I am now also looking at bikes on ebay already with a dropper post. I like 29"

Remove your seatpost. It will be written on there. 30.9 31.6 etc...

Then ask bloke what diameter his is...

There's plenty of weekends mate doesn't need to be this one.

Did you look for the holes in frame ?

What year/model Anthem is it ?

I've got a 30.9mm dia, 125mm drop, Rockshox Reverb (not the Stealth, so with the external hose routing) dropper post sitting around unused. It needs a service as it drops under load but if it's of any use it's yours for the cost of postage...

Dropper post are prone to needing quite a lot of maintanance to keep them working in a non squeaky fashion.

I have have RS Revs fail multiple times - so i would never buy another. I also wasn’t a convert - but now i would see it as essential has disc brakes.
CRC do a very cheap dropper post - and with a two year warranty. Mine has been faultless. It is still only a year old , so if anything goes wrong it goes back.

Dropper posts come in stealth and non-stealth ( i.e cable through the frame to the bottom of the post - stealth. Cable to side “outside” non stealth. Don’t buy the wrong one

The Bontrager post on my Trek is pretty poor, despite being fully serviced by BPW before I bought it. Within a day of getting the bike the amount of rotational play in it was terrible and it's only getting worse. BPW have, to their credit, said they'd replace it with a new one when they re-open but who knows when that will be.

My local JE James have got a Reverb Stealth of the right size in their sale, I'm half tempted to buy that and chuck it on and then sort it out with BPW at some point in the future...

All of mine i've ever tried have had a little bit of play/movement in them, i assume it's just the nature of the beast. But you usually barely notice it.

I've got the Vyron on mine which is cable less by using Ant+, but it's far from perfect, however i don't often use/need a dropper, so i rarely fit it. It's getting used more nowdays than it used to though as i'm doing trickier stuff at times.

Well I've used KS posts for many years without too many issues (on my two bikes and Mrs M's old FS) In fact the one on my Enduro is a first generation i900 and must be 8+ years old and its been serviced about twice in that time, went back under warranty just after I got it and the gas plunger thing failed about 6 years ago and didn't cost too much to get fixed. It's developed some play but nothing you notice whilst riding.

Currently my mates and I use a mix of reverbs and specialised command posts. The early reverbs seemed a bit failure prone but my mates current stealth posts are reliable and the AXS I've run for nearly a year has been flawless so far. The command posts are also ok if a bit agricultural.

I think if you run a shield/mud guard on the dropper and make sure the stanchion and the seal are wiped clean after every ride helps with reliability.

You can rotate the saddle and the top part of the post about 10 degrees either way. I sent the workshop manager at BPW a video of it, with me twisting it backwards and forwards and it making comedy clonking noises as it reached the limit of the movement in each direction. He took one look at it and said "yeah, that's not right. We'll fit a new one FOC as we gave that a full service before we sold you the bike so there's no point us servicing it again".

When you're riding the bike you can feel it moving around a bit.

I'll post it to whomever wants it but I'd have thought it made more sense to send it to Weeksy, if he's local to you, because he - forgive me for saying - knows what he's doing when it comes to bike bits and the fitting of them and if it doesn't fit your bike it'll fit Weeksy junior's.

Just to re-iterate, it needs a service as the saddle drops slowly when you sit on it and bounce up and down (a common sign on Reverb's of them needing TLC).
