Qashqai stop/start batteries.
Had a minor error a couple of times on the QQ. It's a 2013 1.6 nissan engine J11 model.
It comes up with stop/start fault if i leave it for a couple of days when cold on first start up. Once it's been running the next startup is fine.
So i lobbed the multimeter on this morning and it's at 11.76v
Which is, as i expected, a bit low..
So i've pinged the selling dealer i bought the car from a message about it to get his thoughts, he's had this discussion before with me when i first got it, so it's not like i'm springing it up on him..
Anyway, either way, it'll need a new battery. So, do i just buy one and lob it in, or does it need something else doing ? (yes, i've got the radio code)

Re: Qashqai stop/start batteries.
Some cars have a separate 'Auxiliary' battery for stop start, some don't and just use the main battery.
Worth checking which type the Cashcow is.

Re: Qashqai stop/start batteries.
From what i can tell it just needs the main battery but looks like it needs a coding setting either by nissan/RAC to allow the 'counter' to be reset and the battery to register properly.KungFooBob wrote: ↑Thu Jan 06, 2022 1:51 pm Some cars have a separate 'Auxiliary' battery for stop start, some don't and just use the main battery.

Re: Qashqai stop/start batteries.
Some BMW's you used to have to 'code' the battery to the car, but only if the CCA or AH had changed from the one that was previously fitted.

Re: Qashqai stop/start batteries.
Yeah that also comes up in the discussion too as part of the reason, RAC seem to do it for you at home for £145.99 which seems reasonable enough and if it needs it will sort that too. Just waiting for a reply from dealer guy but if it's not done now, i certainly see it being in the not too distant future.KungFooBob wrote: ↑Thu Jan 06, 2022 1:57 pm Some BMW's you used to have to 'code' the battery to the car, but only if the CCA or AH had changed from the one that was previously fitted.

Re: Qashqai stop/start batteries.
The cheapest one for a QQ (I guessed at the model) on Tayna is £105 including delivery, so the RAC one isn't crazy if they come out and fit it.

£164.99 on ECP for an Exide branded one.
£96 for a no name jobbie.
(assuming it's the 1.6 derv).

Re: Qashqai stop/start batteries.
I'm not too worried about the battery in terms of picking one up and throwing it in... it was more about any associated gubbins that need tweaking on the electrics for it.KungFooBob wrote: ↑Thu Jan 06, 2022 2:06 pm £164.99 on ECP for an Exide branded one.

Re: Qashqai stop/start batteries.
Some cars have a S/S reset function by holding certain buttons, etc... I guess a QQ fourm or Friendface group would know.
Unless you know someone with Autodata access?

Re: Qashqai stop/start batteries.
Not sure if it’s been mentioned but the battery usually has a BMS sensor attached to it, this monitors the parameter of the battery and along with the ecu and some other parameters will either allow the start stop function to work or not. It also keeps a tally of the total amount of times the start stop has worked.
This can be reset, I reset the one on our car just before Christmas.
Most start stop cars have a start stop specific battery and starter motor, a good bit more expensive as well.

Re: Qashqai stop/start batteries.
Ours is showing 12.06 which is a bit low. But doesn't need to cope with cold starts.

Re: Qashqai stop/start batteries.
And the method for my car was ignition on, press rear fog light switch 10 times followed by the hazard lights switch 10 times, after this the battery light will flash 3 times and that’s it done.
Google to see if there’s maybe something similar with your car.

Re: Qashqai stop/start batteries.
Read your first comment again.
So the car always starts, but what you’re getting is the start stop fault code message thing? At that voltage the start stop won’t work anyway as it’s well below the limits to which it will work, I think anything below 75%, what mine does is it just show the A with a line across to signify that when you have the car in the state for start stop it won’t work.
Certain things like battery voltage, coolant temperature, A/C can be a factor in whether it will work on not.
Check your charge rate as well, make sure that’s working well.

Re: Qashqai stop/start batteries.
That's all good. Once we've been running a few mins it's put the extra little bit of go in the battery and all is well again.
But the 11.76v and the error implies to me that the battery is a little past it's best and will need sorting sooner or later.

More than likely, if it’s x amount of years old then you’d be as well changing it.
