A 1922 night of the long knives late Jan/early Feb.
"Of all the stories you told me, which ones were true and which ones weren't?"
"My dear Doctor, they're all true."
"Even the lies?"
"Especially the lies."

A bad result but a win in tomorrow's North Shropshire and he might survive for a few months. A loss and he'll be toast.

We went for the Lib dem lady, reasonably attractive and enjoyed my little chat with her. It's not like it makes any difference who you go with anyway. 🙄 postal voting just makes it doable.

They should think about who the voters voted for in the last General Election, before rushing into anything.

Whilst there is a massive shit sandwich on the table, only half eaten, nobody will want to be at the top of the table.

There'll be no shortage of candidates. For some this might be their best chance of getting the top job. They won't turn it down.

Probably taking the attitude that they can't make it any worse even by doing nothing.

You vote for your local MP, not the Prime Minister.

But Boris is and always has been an utter cunt, I'm so glad my only interaction with him was an argument where I told him to fuck off.

In the actual real World (as opposed to lefty dream world), people vote for a party and the leader of the party is not a million miles from their mind.

I don’t think or know you’re anything! I was using the term as a facile insult.

I don’t know if I’m particularly right-wing. I’m old enough (I remember life before Harold Wilson) to be very cynical about Labour. Maybe they’re not so bad nowadays- it’s hard to discern what their actual nature is or what their policy in Government would be.

I bet it still smarts with him to this day that he was out-maneuvered during verbal sparring in such a nimble way. ;)

S'funny. Keir Starmmer struggles as well, so has settled on the principled stance of 'Whatever gets us elected'.

And in the meantime, whilst Labour grapple with their identity crisis, the Torries* just sit and take fucking liberties.

I remember Harold Wison. Man of the people, Yorkshire accent and all .Sometimes! Always when appealing to the masses in public, not so often in private.
A mate, Paul, was working on a building site on the Scillies, when Harold wandered past with his dog. Paul called out "What about the workers", Harold replied in a rather posh tome "I see no apparent signs of work here" and strode off,

He was the one who resorted to swearing first when he couldn't explain why he needed to cycle on the footpath along Grays Inn Road in that there London, if my memory is correct there was a cycle path there in 2001.

That.

The fact that Labour haven't been able to be an effective opposition or beat the Tories given just how crap they are is staggering. Labour don't have a clue as to what they are other than not Tory.

Seems almost certain that Lord Frost's resignation from the govt will be the kiss of death for Johnson, with many more to follow. Asked a pal when he thought Johnson would go and he said January, and I said March. Think my pal could be on the money ...

Interesting days for sure.
