Adventure helmets... what's the benefit over standard?

Post by gremlin »

My trusty Shoei has seen better days so I'm looking at a new lid and been seeing a load of 'adventure helmets', which just seem to have a bit of a pointless, though fashionable, visor. Other than making me look even more wind-swept and rugged, what benefits do they have over a standard lid?

You get a nice peak to block the sun.

The visor aperture is generally much larger than a traditional helmet, giving a slightly larger field of vision... this also means you can wear goggles if you remove the standard visor.

I've got an Arai Tour-X4, it's great, but changing the visor is a right ball ache.

If you mean something like a Arai Tour X, it's a full face crash helmet with a peak that keeps the sun out of your eyes

I've always wondered why MX lids have a peak?

I replaced my old Shoei multitech with a Caberg tourmax with a peak, great for blocking the low sun this time of year.

Not up to Shoei quality but no louder with the peak and has a wider field of vision.

A bit Stormtrooper looking.
