Alec Baldwin accidentally kills DOP with prop gun!
Extraordinary story this. Whilst filming his latest film, Rust, in New Mexico, something went wrong with his prop gun and when he fired it he shot dead the Director of Photography and injured the Director, who has now been discharged from Hospital. No idea how this could have happened as these things are checked, checked and checked again!
A woman has died and a man has been injured after actor Alec Baldwin fired a prop gun on a New Mexico film set.
Police in the US state said Mr Baldwin discharged the weapon during filming for the 19th Century western Rust.
The woman, Halyna Hutchins, was flown to hospital by helicopter but died of her injuries. The man, director Joel Souza, was receiving emergency care.
A spokesperson for Mr Baldwin told AP news agency the incident involved the misfiring of a prop gun with blanks.
Ms Hutchins, 42, was working on the set as director of photography. Mr Souza, 48, was taken from the scene by ambulance, but details of his injuries have not been disclosed.
Police are still investigating the incident at Bonanza Creek Ranch, a popular filming location, and no charges have been filed.

Prop guns don't kill people, real guns do, but guns don't shoot themselves (unless they're Sten guns)

We'll all think it was just a tragic accident until it emerges that he pistol whipped her to death.

This just popped into my head:
My mind is a dump of useless shit.
On a serious note, that is almost unbelievable incident, it shouldn't happen but humans are involved. I'd like to know more to see how/why the holes in the "safety cheese" lined up to let that happen.

Re: Alec Baldwin accidentally kills DOP with prop gun!
Earlier, I watched a safety guy talking about the use of guns on a set. He said they are never pointed directly at a person and rely on camera angles to create that. In close up situations its normally quick and CGI is used. So, yes, quite how it happened beggars belief!MingtheMerciless wrote: ↑Fri Oct 22, 2021 10:37 am This just popped into my head:

Why would you have a real fire arm on a movie set, they're heavy and dangerous, a plastic replica would be more than good enough.Taipan wrote: ↑Fri Oct 22, 2021 11:26 amEarlier, I watched a safety guy talking about the use of guns on a set. Re: Alec Baldwin accidentally kills DOP with prop gun!
I agree and with CGI as good as it is, I really can't see the need for it? A blank bullet is still a bullet, just missing the projectile bit, but if anything got in the barrel, its coming out the same way as the lead would! Maybe things will change now?Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Fri Oct 22, 2021 3:03 pmWhy would you have a real fire arm on a movie set, they're heavy and dangerous, a plastic replica would be more than good enough.Taipan wrote: ↑Fri Oct 22, 2021 11:26 amEarlier, I watched a safety guy talking about the use of guns on a set. This can only be prevented by giving Americans more guns.

Re: Alec Baldwin accidentally kills DOP with prop gun!
My wife pointed out that often they do that pointing almost at the camera shot and there's a lot of people behind the camera.Taipan wrote: ↑Fri Oct 22, 2021 3:51 pmI was the same, and can only assume they were running through the shot with him?demographic wrote: ↑Fri Oct 22, 2021 3:48 pm I can understand it hitting another actor but director and photogrsphic bod?
