Pictures of your bike somewhere mildly interesting
A thread to post pictures of your bike somewhere
Today I have been to Orford, pictures from phone so not brilliant, but if you look closely you can see the pagodas where they tested fuses for nuclear bombs and the old CIA building that they never used but was used by the BBC to beam radio at the Eastern Block

Re: Pictures of your bike somewhere mildly interesting
Been to Željava abandoned (bombed out) airfield in Croatia on the border with Bosnia. All three runways are in excellent condition, although access to one runway is a bit dodgy as it is in Bosnia (100 metres away through some concrete bollards).
The other two are fine, and spent a few hours there doing high speed runs on the other two. Also 6 kms of tunnels in the hillside to explore. Don't go off of the tracks into the woods, as not all landmines have been cleared.

I had never seen a pumpkin in the UK until about 25 years ago.

It used to be a Training base during WW2 but in the 1960's become a satellite listening post. It's now a joint GCHQ and NSA run site listening in to everyones satellites and rumour(tin hat) has it that there is also satellite denial weaponry there.
A lot of the transatlantic fibre cables come ashore at Bude and nearby Widemouth Bay and at the repeater station nearby a "sniffer or optical tap" for want of a better term has been installed on each fibre to send the signal to GCHQ Bude as well, apparently a similar set up is installed on the cables coming ashore at Sennen Cove.
It is also a specific criminal offence to trespass on this site (it also has a lot of camera's, razor wire and no photography signage).
Many, many years ago I applied to work there on the ICE UPS systems (didn't get it) and both me and the recruitment consultant were dancing around what to call the place before I hit upon the term "Sky's largest subscriber".
"Of all the stories you told me, which ones were true and which ones weren't?"
"My dear Doctor, they're all true."
"Even the lies?"
"Especially the lies."
