Hiya guys, I thought I'd post a thread after Skub suggested it in my welcome post.
A little brief history, started on R6s, 02s, 05s, 08s, moved onto 1000cc with the BMW s1000rrs, a great bike, but a little too clinical for my tastes and never really loved it.
Fast forward to 2018 and after leaving the forces due to injury, I treated myself to a new R1, supplied by Wigan Yamaha, I'd never been in a position to buy a brand new bike, so it was all very exciting and the journey to collect it seemed to take forever, but a few hours later I had a new R1 at home and lots of plans for it.
As those that may have read in my introduction post, at this point I'd giving up road riding and was 100% focused on trackdays.
And so I set to work, after a few weeks it went from a stock bike to this For our first trip to Cartagena in Spain, I absolutely loved it there and soon got to grips with using the R1 and it's many rider aids over the 3 days.
Almost a year passed with the bike remaining as it was, I did a few more trackdays and by now it had a Woolich Race Tools Package, a reflash and tune but they was it.
Time for a change and I picked our first time at Cadwell Park (one of my favourite places in the UK now) as the deadline to get bits done.
At Cadwell it looked like this Some new Valtermoto rearsets and the GYTR fairings along with the SC Project SC1R exhaust system were fitted beforehand, I absolutely loved Cadwell Park, the R1 felt right at home there and while the morning was wet, it soon dried up for the rest of the day, I only had one goal, get air under the bike over the mountain which I managed.

Then covid hit and I started putting a plan into action on totally stripping the bike, removing everything that wasn't required for track and basically getting the bike to a superstock level.

That's about it, I can't ever see me selling it tbh, I adore the bike and while there's faster out there now I'm not really interested...well, maybe a new Blade..lol

Thanks Weeksy much appreciated, it's definitely gone through some different looks, but I'm really happy with how it is now, although the wheels need to be stripped and powder coated this winter, the company I used did a piss poor job, only noticed when at Pembrey, dropped my wheels off with Phil to change some tyres over, only to get a phone call a few minutes later saying the paint is flaking off when removing the rubber.
Turns out the just costed straight over the top of the oem colour..
Not a small company either.

I've worked my way back to small bikes, so the R1 is a bit much for me, I'd probably cruise round on half throttle, but you can't go wrong with that sort of passion, it's nice to see someone enjoying a bike.

Bike looks ace now with that white/blue scheme - tell us you don't have fluorescent green rim tape on the wheels to match the warmers

Yeah everything was fitted by myself and my mate, minus the tuning of course.
I didn't take many pictures but will have a look to see what I've got.
In truth it was quite daunting at first, the R1 has so much electronic wizardry that I thought it would be a minefield of wires, fuses and sensors, and while there is A LOT of that, for the most part fitting everything was relatively straightforward, we just took our time, labeled everything, organised it all etc.

The only thing that we come stuck on was getting the ignition removed and keyed out to just work off the button.
We jumped ahead a few steps too far and I had to make a call to Rich at Woolich to help out, he's a good mate thankfully and sorted it for me.

The temptation is there Yorick I must admit, it's just a cost vs reward thing that I worry about, I'll definitely do a round or two next year I think with my mate and see how it goes.

We've only recently stuck our toes into the world of racing by taking part in the Pembrey round of the BMB, that was a absolutely fantastic weekend of racing and hilarious fun and we'll definitely be doing that again too, In fact I'd recommend it to anyone that does pit biking, ultra competitive and wheel to wheel racing.
Which reminds me to upload the race footage actually.

Thanks Skub, tbh I don't really do anything other than work and trackdays, I don't/can't drink (two can van damme) don't go out pubing or clubbing, so any spare money after bills etc is either saved or used on the bike for parts or trackdays.

Currently underneath the bike giving it a full service and clean ready for Portimao, bikes are going on the 3rd so we don't have long.
Doesn't help that I'm totally ocd when it comes to cleaning and I spend untold hours with an assortment of brushes and cloths making sure its immaculate as can be.

Lovely looking bike, very clean but you should be ashamed at the state of your oil drain can, it’s filthy!

Back on topic, sort of, did you do any tweaks to the S1000RR?

Nice looking/spec bike
Love the sound they make, very similar to the RSV4's

Not really tbh, mine was a gen 2 (2012-2014), had what can only be described as a bean can exhaust on it, a filter and map, I think at the time, I knew I wasn't keeping the bike so didn't really do much, It was and is a fantastic bike, comfortable, incredibly quick and had plenty of electronics (although by today's standards they are very unrefined)
It did everything right, but lacked any soul, I count myself extremely lucky to have even owned one, but at the time, I'd open the garage and I'd not get excited, it's a very clinical bike as you'd expect from German engineering and does everything you want perfectly well, but the downside of it all was it just left me feeling quite cold to it.
Where as the R1 is totally different, yes it has all the electronics you'd ever need, but the difference I think is that the earlier rider aids just tried to stop things happening, where as the new stuff on the likes of the R1, blades and bmw does it in a way that allows you to go quicker, doesn't take anything away from the fun and only adds to it.
You hear it all the time "Riders aids are crap, I'd turn them all off" but 99.9% of the time it's muttered by rider that's never ridden anything like the new crop of 1000cc superbikes.
I'm yet to meet a mere mortal trackday rider that is faster with it all turned off, in fact the only person I know that was faster on my R1 with it all turned down to 1 was James Hillier, he had a few goes on it at Donnington Park and could feel it holding him back, scary difference in ability.

Yeah these and the Apes sound incredible, although I will say the new Blade for a IL4 sounds absolutely stunning too.

Honestly can't wait now, bikes are getting dropped off on Sunday, which gives me a few days more of playing Ride 4 and watching onboards to try learning as much as possible before the real thing.
it seems I'm going to have to also source a new Go Pro, I've only recently bought the Hero 9 black and I've had nothing but issues with it, failing to record, over heating etc.
Typically the new Hero 10 is out now.
