In 1960, US business Harley-Davidson motorcycles purchased 50% of Aermacchi's motorcycle division. The Italian branch of the brand was named 'Aermacchi-Harley-Davidson' and the first bike was a variation of the 'Ala Verde' suitably modified for the American market. This was also the year that the Chimera ceased production. The remaining motorcycle holdings were sold in 1974 to AMF-Harley-Davidson, with motorcycles continuing to be made at Varese. The business was sold to Cagiva in 1978.

It was back at that time when AMF owned Harley and Aermacchi too so it's actually an Italian designed and manufactured bike with Harley badges- AMF sold Aermacchi to Cagiva (I think) towards the end of the 70s, but was IMO an interesting period for HD, albeit I suspect a lot of the "good ole boy" US patriots would probably not see it the same way

He didn't mean one of these, he meant one of the 4 strokes from the 1960s.

I don't know what you'd do with this, it's 1975 so it would be racing against TZ Yamahas, they would fly past it in a straight line.
I assume the engine is based on the road bike engine, which was slow, noisy and very vibey.

But an interesting bike, and at a time when 350LCs are selling for £7K that's probably worth £30K to a collector of old race bikes.

Thanks for that, I thought it was one of the air cooled road bike singles in a road race chassis, but it is a water cooled twin, it might actually be quite competitive, sounds like a lot of the parts likely to wear out are Yamaha, in which case they'll still be available, it actually might be a bit of a bargain.
