New bike

I never thought I'd buy another new bike, let alone a Ducati. Enjoying it so far despite having to short shift all the time to keep the revs down till it's run in and had its first service. Also bought a top box, tank bag with usb plug in for phone/satnav, and heated grips. Toying with the idea of R&G crash bungs, maybe a crash bars.

Aye, 950S. Getting used to the electronic suspension etc, will mess around more with the ride modes once its run in.

I'd say tank high - I'm not particularly tall but can get my feet on the ground easily (depending on suspension setting).

I was tempted, but Funners reckon they eat tyres for breakfast. That and V4 servicing costs . After test riding the Super Duke 1290 GT, I didn't want a more powerful bike. The 950 is more flickable, almost like a supermoto in the way you can change your line mid corner, and enough grunt to get a shift on.

The guys at Seastar were good too, so will see how that goes...

I get about 6000 miles out of a rear tyre on my 1200 with mixed riding but Funners does a lot of 2 up riding with his missus and he is “ a bit” heavier than me on his own

Ironically the service intervals on the new V4 engined Multis is 9000 miles for normal and 36000 miles for the big service. On the V2 engines is 7500 and 15000 for the earlier ones like mine and 9000 and 18000 for the DVT engines like Funners

Hope you enjoy the new toy and glad the lads at Seastar looked after you. They have always been excellent with me but others have had less than perfect attention on visits

Re the sales guys, Tony is the senior one (tattoos of flames on the arms) and who i always deal with. Upstairs the main one i go to is Dave, the older fella with the grey hair as the female service manager is fairly new and not really dealt with her before.

The 6000 miles was on Pirelli Angel GT which were the OE tyres for my bike at the time it was released. I use the GT2 now but i think the 950 comes with Scorpion Trail which are Sport Touring and supposedly dual purpose ...... most people never venture off tarmac so swap to more road orientated rubber but the dual purpose tyres normally give decent mileage and i always used Metzeler Tourance on the GS as they lasted longer than normal road rubber

The new V4 engine doesnt have the Desmo system so no belt changes as thats the limiting thing with the desmo valve system hence the 18000 miles on yours. The V4 engine is more like Japanese engines so the 36000 miles is the first big vavle check and only oils and filters etc before that. Most owners from new wont ever get to that mileage before they chop the bike in for next years model hence lots of 2-3 year old low mileage secondhand bikes in Seastar
