Hi all!
Mew to this forum as I collect my 2109 Speed Twin on 15th July - can't wait!

Also am a member of the Triumph Explorer 1200 forum, which I found extremely friendly and very helpful!
Still have a 2012 Explorer which unfortunately had a major gearbox problem. Can't get parts until earliest September, and maybe 2022!!!

So, soon to garage the Speed Twin, next to the Explorer, a Suzuki GSX-R 750 (1985) - now on eBay, and I race a classic sidecar with a Norton Commando 750 engine (breathed upon, naturally!)

Looking forward to the chat here, and if anyone has clear instructions/knowledge on how to remove/disarm a DataTool S4 on the Twin, I'd be pleased to hear from you!!!

Yo Champ,welcome in man.

Some years ago I removed a Datatool alarm from a 98 Fireblade,none of the wires were colour coded,probably to make it as difficult as possible for any would be fiddlers.

I tackled it by removing one spliced wire at a time,laborious and time consuming,but it meant I didn't get lost. Those who know may have another better way,but the internet may not be as forthcoming as you would like,since folk may suspect alarm removal is an act of scotedom.

Race with CRMC, BHR, Camathius Cup and (when possible, but not this year) Chimay and Gedinne road races and Spa.

I assume that you know the exhaust is off an 86/87 bike?

With the racing, the Explorer and the Speed Twin, little time to wrestle with this rocket! I did buy it for parading in between acquiring sidecar outfits, and also I thought it may increase in value!! Yeah, right!

Hi! I have read so many positive reviews about the Speed Twin, it just seems to be the perfect bike for my requirements!

The Tiger Explorer has become just too heavy, unwieldy and too tall for an old man like me!! The Twin has great torque and bhp so the fun of roaring ahead will be akin to the Tiger, whist being perfect for wandering around sightseeing!

Looking forward to picking it up and riding it back to home on a 180 mile 'interesting' route.

I've got a Tiger 800, not too heavy for an old man like me, and a 1200 Monster which is similar in dimensions to the Speed Twin

I’ve got a 2015 Tex, had a 2012 a couple of bikes ago. Still love it, i tour and find it ideal for me, plus the 2015 handles so much better than the earlier one.
Agree tis heavy, I’m 62 in a few days but you just get on with it!,
Love the Speed Twin too, may be on the list for later!!

Yeah. I love the Tex too. Not once have I ridden it without a huge, stupid smile breaking out on my face!
The handling I always felt was spot on, and have on a number of occasions ground the underside of the footpegs...
And oh, that torque, and acceleration... Awesome

But sadly it has become way too awkward to manoeuvre at walking speed, and even with both feet flat on the ground, legs are too straight to prevent a topple!

I am certain the Speed Twin will answer most of my requirements.

Oh Dear.

Having collected the Twin from Stafford, and riding it back to Essex, I have to say I was not 'loving' it.

Persevered, but after 5 weeks I decided it wasn't for me, and I sold it (for the same price I paid for it).
What went wrong? I found the riding position a tad too forward; the heat from the right hand side of the engine on the inside of my knee/thigh was unbearable unless 30mph exceeded (but nothing from the left hand side???); the seat was like a plank of wood and too wide where it shouldn't have been; the throttle was jerky and needed resetting (had a similar issue on the Explorer) and the bar end Triumph mirrors were a joke - anything over 50mph they took on a life of their own and needed adjusting to normal at each stop.
Not really what I was expecting for a sub £9k bike. It (for me anyway) would never make a good touring bike either.

This, with the (still) non appearance or any date projection of parts for the Explorer, has just about done it for me.

I did try a Suzuki V-Strom DL 650, and fell in love with it... Superb handling, smooth and comfortable, light and easy to manoeuvre, and surprising torque and speed for a smallish engine. Easily accelerated to 95 with revs to go.

Sorry all. Me and the Twin just didn't gel.
