Insurance sharp practice Who'd have thought!!!
Got rung by what I thought was my insurance broker, RCIB saying the renewal of the Laverda's insurance was due, which it is. So got a good quote and paid up. Today I get an email from the "bike insurer" who it turns out was the broker I had actually insured it through all last year so the first broker who rang, stole the business from the actual broker I'd used, they had the correct dates, reg, and the insurer right, but were £10 DEARER Not overly bothered but its pretty sharp practice duping the insured by having all the details from the previous years quote which they had obviously kept on record and used a month prior to it running out in the hope to gain an advantage which they have. as everything's online /Electronic i dont tend to sit there with the docs anymore, making phone calls. the "cold call" wasn't really, more of a cold call con which succeeded. personally I think the whole insurance industry want a thorough rocket up the tailpipe.

You probably have the right to cancel.
If you're really pissed about it, then you could try the ombudsman.

I used to get similar years ago from mobile phone resellers. They would have similar names, know all my details and when the contract expired but I'd never heard of them before.
I wouldn't trust any company that works through deception like that.

Let's hope the Insurance Ombudsman is faster than the Financial Ombudsman. Wife complained about a bank in September 2019. Just had a letter saying that they hope to allocate a claims handler sometime in the next 4 months. So 2 years from complaint to the START of actually looking at the issue.

There's been a bit of a virus problem lately which may have lead to delays.Cousin Jack wrote: ↑Sun May 30, 2021 5:58 pmLet's hope the Insurance Ombudsman is faster than the Financial Ombudsman. There has, but Sept 2019 was a bit before the virus, in the UK anyway.

I don't either - interesting in the FT this weekend (only physical, paper I buy now) that insurance companies have been told that they must offer same policies to current holders as to new holders - by 2022

They're all as bad as each other, all are disreputable. despite their attempt at being outwardly honourable.asmethurst99 wrote: ↑Sun May 30, 2021 9:06 pm I don't either - interesting in the FT this weekend (only physical, paper I buy now) that insurance companies have been told that they must offer same policies to current holders as to new holders - by 2022

Footman James are ok but it's obvious that my 1995 CBR will be a right off with hardly any damage so the premium is low and I'm good with that .rodbargee wrote: ↑Sun May 30, 2021 9:14 pmThey're all as bad as each other, all are disreputable. despite their attempt at being outwardly honourable.asmethurst99 wrote: ↑Sun May 30, 2021 9:06 pm I don't either - interesting in the FT this weekend (only physical, paper I buy now) that insurance companies have been told that they must offer same policies to current holders as to new holders - by 2022
I had a cracked mudguard from someone reversing into me on my Bandit (I was stationary at the time) i claimed and having legal cover etc - it also wasn't my fault obv - turned into different brokers getting money out of each other .
It was a 200 quid repair inc labour without the gaming and bike hire etc.
R1 loon would be the person to explain in past times I guess.
It's so opaque

I hate insurance companies, tomorrow I have to re-insure the Alpina's warranty that covers amongst other things the supercharger It wouldn't surprise me that they wont cover it next year I only just got it covered last time. it makes you want to get it to blow so you get a payout. Which is not me a at all.TWATS

Devitts tried to charge me a £25 renewal charge, so they can poke it

I'll keep an eye out for that as I've just insured with them for the first time. They were £77 TPFT as opposed to bikesure £130 TPO + Bikesure would not cover a daytime only MOT* bike for theft! Devitts did tell me my cancelation fee is £75 on a £77 policyLe_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Sun May 30, 2021 11:02 pm Devitts tried to charge me a £25 renewal charge, so they can poke it
*I know its not called a 'Daytime Only MOT' ut most everybody knows what I mean when I use that phrase !

How would the insurance know it's a "daytime" MOT, it only appears as an advisory on the DVLA website.

Don't talk to me about ruddy insurance. I let my instructor cover lapse last year when I was clear I wasn't going to be riding anywhere for three months, then couldn't get it renewed - apparently all I had to do was build a brick garage and lock the bike in it at night... in a Victorian terraced street!

I'd call the fucker back & give him a fairly pointed character assessment.

I think they actually asked, but can't quite recall.Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Mon May 31, 2021 9:24 am How would the insurance know it's a "daytime" MOT, it only appears as an advisory on the DVLA website.
Maybe their spidey senses were tingling as my bike isn't generally sold as a road bike ;-
250 EXC Enduro model, lights, indicators, numberplate
250 SX Motocross model, no lights, only enough wiring to make it run
250 XC a mix of the two, generally used by enduro riders, not normally road registered- This is what I have.
Devitt didn't ask, so I didn't volunteer the info.

Not that it helps you immediately but this could be worth keeping tabs on.The Spin Doctor wrote: ↑Mon May 31, 2021 7:15 pm Don't talk to me about ruddy insurance.
