Trying a GS....

Ever the optimist I'm looking forward to doing some touring soon, so with this in mind I thought it was time to buy a GS1200 and see what all the fuss is about. Meet Gary the Gelande

Bring on the smelling of wee jokes. Correct spelling and use of any apostrophe if you don't mind, I'm 60 tomorrow and these things are now important to me

I hired one in Italy last year. At first I didn't gel, then halfway through the week I suddenly found myself adapting to it (not that's it's
that different a beast to the Tiger). By the end of the week I was a bit of a fan, if truth be told. For touring it's great.

You don't know till you give it a go
I reckon you'll love it once you get used to it. You've toured a boxer around France in the past so I reckon its just the riding position and the "bulk" to get used to.
Looking forward to having spin on it

Me too
Having owned a couple of adventure bikes with 21" front wheels and never quite gelling with the handling I'm curious to try a 19" and the GS would be my choice.

Hugger mount?
I don't think you can mount the hugger on the FD like you would a regular swingarm 'cause the GS is paralever, which means the arms do move relative the the wheel a bit. You need to mount the hugger from the wheel centre point so that it doesn't clash with the wheel.

Have to say, GS is looking more and more likely to be my next bike.

They do take a while to gel with, it’s not an immediate thing.
I’ve had other dalliances but I keep going back to a GSA. I’m on my fifth.

I've always liked every one I've ridden, from an R80GS through to the 1200, Adventure and 'normal'. I don't think I ever rode the water cooled one though, that was after my time.
I'd have one in a heartbeat.

I bought a 2006 adventure earlier this year, gelled with it as soon as it was moving, but it is a bit like riding a tandem in that you try not to actually come to a halt anywhere for fear of toppling over

Agreed, I've been practicing being aloof. By the time I get out on it next week I think I'll have the whole ignoring other motorcyclist thing smashed

Take it for a long test ride next time we meet. The funny thing with a boxer BM is the first 15 miles you'll probably think it's horrible, the next 20 or so it's weird, another 30 & it's "Hmm, I quite like this". After a hundred or so it's often "I wonder how much I could get one of these for"

Days longer if it has the lego indicators
But, usually, end up thinking 'they should all be like this' because that's the way our thumbs pivot.

Yep, I still miss them now and I’m on my second one with the ‘normal’ style.

I'm starting to get used to the indicators on the KRS. It does actually feel quite natural... except when it comes to cancelling them. I still have to look at the bars to find the cancel button.
