The 700's do make better looking customs than the 900's. I guess you just don't have to work around the odd tank and frame shape.

Absolutely agree, their shape and even the engine/pipes seem to lend themselves really well to custom changes better than the 900.

I do actually need to try one to see how they are as they've got merit if the 900 ever goes.

I like them, I'm not put off by the shopping bike thing, it's just that they're tiny and I'm tall and fat. I might give the 900 a go at some point.

There must be some kind of market for the endless parade of ‘customs’ that come out of workshops but you have to wonder where it is?

There’s a shed load of work and money gone into that and presumably it’s not cheap.

Is it the investment banker who wants to look cool?

The lifelong biker who wants something different?

If you had the money to spend on that would you buy it or would you just get a more expensive bike in the first place?

It's only an endless parade as i peruse the websites doing it, few of them are UK/US based, so even if it's 1000 worldwide, it's only a VERY small number compared to how many bikes are sold.

I do agree though, but some people want the 'custom' but not putting in the time and effort. I can kinda get that, especially not having the machinning ability or even the imagination to do custom stuff.
