Car polishers?
Are these sort of polishers any good? Not looking to spend a fortune as it'll probably only get used a few times.

Re: Car polishers?
If you get one make sure it's random orbit, same as sanders to avoid swirls. I bought a cheap one to get rid of a gauge in my van, it did OK but was aggressive so I didn't like using it.
Maybe if I had more practice it would be fine.

Be careful where you put it down, if it picks up a bit of grit, oh dear, personally I'd stick with a hand job.

Re: Car polishers?
The kits that include the pads usually come with the cheapest pads made & are total crap. I rinsed a pad recently & discovered they used water based glue to attach the velcro...

Unless you know what you are doing i would stick to traditional cleaning, less chance of damaging the paintwork!

You're about the 5th person to say that to me! I'm starting to bottle it a bit now. I suppose I do need the exercise...ogri wrote: โSat Mar 27, 2021 10:12 pm$10 and you can give me a hand job!Dodgy knees wrote: โSat Mar 27, 2021 3:22 pm Be careful where you put it down, if it picks up a bit of grit, oh dear, personally I'd stick with a hand job.

On a similar vein, anyone used one of the kits for bringing headlights back from a slow, yellowing death? Noticed one of the Merc's headlights is looking a bit sorry for itself at the weekend.

Re: Car polishers?
I did the lights on my FTO with ever increasing numbered grades of wet and dry (with lots of wet). Then polished off with some cutting compound. They turned out brilliant.gremlin wrote: โMon Mar 29, 2021 2:40 pm On a similar vein, anyone used one of the kits for bringing headlights back from a slow, yellowing death? Tried that, as well as a glass polishing compound I have. No joy.ZRX61 wrote: โMon Mar 29, 2021 4:36 pmSolvol & a rag.gremlin wrote: โMon Mar 29, 2021 2:40 pm On a similar vein, anyone used one of the kits for bringing headlights back from a slow, yellowing death? I think I need to get in with ever-decreasing coarseness W&D and then use the polishing stuff.
It's gonna get messy.

Are you sure the yellow is just on the surface and not all the way through?gremlin wrote: โTue Mar 30, 2021 9:13 amTried that, as well as a glass polishing compound I have. Re: Car polishers?
You can feel it as you rub your finger over it, so assuming its surface. It's not actually that bad and you struggle to see it at any sort of distance. I only noticed it as I was tidying up the engine bay with the bonnet lifted.
Currently it's only on the top edges of one light, so not too bad, but if I can tackle it now, it's the proverbial stitch in time.

Re: Car polishers?
Well I suppose the logical approach is to try it by hand first and if it doesnโt come out right, then try a polisher.
