Replacing Burgman Rear Shocks.......
Hi all. I've got a Burgy AN650, and the rear shocks seem FUBARED. She feels like she's bottoming out at times, even when ridden solo.
I've decided to replace the rear shocks, but not ever having done this before, I was wondering........What is the procedure for this? Can you just take one off, replace it, and then do the same with the other side, or will there be a problem when I remove one shock, such as the distance between the lower and upper mounting increasing? IYSWIM
Cheers.

Probably the most difficulty you'll experience will be the mounting bolt at the top of the shock as there will be a lifetime's worth of road crud welding it in place! Maybe give it a clean and a dose of WD40,or the like a day before doing the work.
Aside from that and doing the work with the scoot on the centre stand, plus providing you can get at the two bolts without removing bodywork,it ought to be a straightforward job.

Lovely Skub, thanks very much for your reply.
The bolts are all within view, and accessible without removing any body panels, so I'll do as you suggest with some Plus-gas/WD40, as it is very true that the crud levels up there are quite high.
I'll order my shocks, and as soon as they arrive I'll get stuck in, and fingers crossed, I'll be able to remove the cruded up nuts. Once again, cheers.

Dodge as noted just do one at a time. You can find a manual for an 03 model on here. Whilst yours may not be a 03 the suspension will be the same.

It seems odd that it would suddenly start bottoming out unless a spring has broken, before you buy new is there any preload adjustment you can try?

Re: Replacing Burgman Rear Shocks.......
The Burgy has now had over 7 years of utterly crap road surfaces to contend with, and are pretty much totalled.
We always had it on the 'soft' setting, as that gave a better ride on our shite roads. Neither spring is broken, but the ride quality was crap, and they started bottoming out a week or so back.
The standard shocks are not particularly good in the first place, and I was considering replacing them anyway. This just forced my hand.
Rather than go for the over-priced crap Suzuki originals, I bought a pair of Hagon shocks from here:-
http://www.bits4motorbikes.co.uk/index.html
£143, free postage, and I received them the next day.
Despite the crud, the old shocks came off very easily, and the new ones were on after about 20 minutes.
It's now like riding a new bike. Definitely the most comfortable the burgy has EVER been. Even when I picked it up new, it never felt as comfy as it is now.
The o/h who has a dodgy back at times, was praising the ride after a few minutes.
It was well worth the money changing for the Hagons. I should've done it a few years back.
