Road circuit for a day
Following on from Horse posting the Rendevous video...
If you could have a traffic and people free (And in my case if they could fill in the flubbin' pot holes it would be nice too!) circuit of roads in your local area for a day what it be ?
(The nurburgringring is around 13 miles so I've tried to keep mine to that.)
Without people and cars I think this would be epic! Probably a staggered start a la IOM
https://ridewithgps.com/routes/35309629
Starting in town a couple of 90 degree bends before setting off up a narrow hill climb with 2 blind crests
After the 2nd crest flat out short straight before a tight chicane which opens out into hedge and wall lined sweeping bends up to the reservior.
An off-camber 90 tight right hander opens onto a fast climb (first overtake opportunity) up to a 2nd gear left into a short descent to a series of s-bends to the Cross Gaits.
A 90 right onto a run through the Blacko village dip before another 90 onto the 'mountain road' - 5 miles of high speed sweepers with one slower speed left-right section where you should be able to extract full beans (if you've got the balls). (Quite a few overtaking spots)
Drop into Gisburn where a 90 right and a quick mini-roundabout leads onto a short high speed straight (Last easy overtake) before final 90 right onto the run home.
A great mix of faster and slower speed corners with hedges and walls and a blind crest or 2, a hump backed bridge and a sweeping left brings you onto the last straight run back towards town. (Room for side-by-side shenanigans for 200m)
A slight right (One final lunge up the inside?) and a 100m sprint to the flag to be cheered on by the massed throngs.
I suppose I should do one of those Google Map fly-bys

Re: Road circuit for a day
I'm lucky enough to have loads of road race circuits close to home. Most of them open your eyes and make you wonder how the racers ever give a litre sportsbike full throttle over the mostly shitty surfaces, but there is one faster set of roads with much better surfaces.
Dundrod. The home of the Ulster Grand Prix, which holds the record as the fastest road race in the world.
If you choose your times wisely (early Sunday morning, for example) it's possible to string a lap or two together before drawing negative attention. One circulation is about 7 miles.
Not saying I have,or anything,but someone could.
In damp conditions.....

The back road from Stowmarket to Needham Market circa 1990 before it was ruined with a new housing estate, up the A140 to Stonham Tap, turn left into the A1120, past the Sushi factory, through Stowupland and down the hill into Stowmarket.

I don't think seeing Penis Town on the roadsigns will ever get old.

Look at the Fuertaventura road from Pajara, through Betancuria until it reaches the FV-416. It's awesome, mental, insane etc
We go over every few months, just for this ride.
Look on satellite image to see how the road runs round the edge of the mountains. If you go over the edge, you're dead.

Yep, I’ve got to agree that the TT circuit is just about as good as it gets for me....I really don’t think I could design anything better, it’s just got everything !

My normal jaunt is out on one of the Essex peninsulas as shown below. Sometimes I'll go further north but its rare these days?

Re: Road circuit for a day
I love KFB's loop, but it's a bit long for a road race lap. Same might be said for this, at 26 miles, but it's a hell of a lap

I’ve only been round it virtually but it looks amazing.
A friend used to go regularly in the 90’s - he said you had to be careful.

Re: Road circuit for a day
This is the best I could do locally. On a nice day with no traffic it would be a good run. The highlights are over and down the Ditchling Beacon, the Laughton Road, High & Over Alfriston and the A26 north from Newhaven.

Re: Road circuit for a day
Bit jealous of the Peak District boys, I'm nervous on those roads when there's traffic on them and they're too far away to get an early morning run on for me.

You could then do Fakenham to Thetford and then back to Kings Lynn via Brandonasmethurst99 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 03, 2021 8:57 pm Thinking about it - Kings lynn to Fakenham ( in about 1982) as well -

I’ve been lucky enough to have had the TT circuit to myself with closed roads and it’s AWESOME !! Some of the fast, bumpy sections from Ginger Hall are like nothing else but other sections, like Quarry or parts of the mountain, are almost like a fast GP circuit....and then there’s the corners like Ballygarey and Barregarrow bottom...!!

When we're at the moneypit in France, this is my go-to route. Fabulous, beautifully surfaced roads and some fairly epic scenery if you've got time to admire it.

I've always said that the section from Ginger Hall to Ramsey is the best test of suspension known to Mann (see what I did there?)Dave@ERT wrote: ↑Thu Mar 04, 2021 10:18 am I’ve been lucky enough to have had the TT circuit to myself with closed roads and it’s AWESOME !!
