New Bike Day - CP3!

I so so nearly bought an XSR900 last week. But at the last moment my head was turned by the twinkle of gold and a fancy paint job. Oh how fickle we are.
Anyway here it is, my new-to-me MT09 SP.

That looks ace mate. How many miles, what year, what plans, are you coming to Pembrey with it ?

Its not perfect. I'm not keen on the black widow exhaust - its too loud. Howevs, it came with the original so I might try that.
Everything else is fantastic. Its comfy for a start - more so than my street triple was.
And faster. You really have to pay attention.
Its done 5k so is in tidy order. I have a few tweaks after sorting the exhaust. Probably ECU flash after I have fully established that its required.
Traction control is a bit daft. I've never had it before and as it arrived it was set at level 2. The first time I gave it the berries, it tried to wheelie then cut the power then kicked in again, and off we went, bouncing along like a jetski in heavy chop.
Level 1 was better and allowed some cheeky naughtiness but still a little coquettish.
Off altogether for full frontals.
I don't do many track days these days but I'm tempted by Pembrey if there is a more social element. I would be rusty.

That depends on the CV19 restrictions, but even last year it was superbly social even though we missed out on

But we still did it with pubs/hotels as we were not allowed to camp at the circuit.
In terms of being rusty, we've had more 'newbies' than i can count who've never been on a racetrack before coming to Pembrey, each and every one has loved it.

Looks ace!
It seems a long way off at the moment with everything up in the air, and I need to make sure I'm not on the family holiday that week. But does look good.

TBH the situation of the world being all up in the air is the main reason why i'm now pushing people on the thread, lifes too damn short and we need to take advantage of situations when we can, get things done and don't sit at home. We all thought "yeah the world will be fine early 2021" and it wasn't winter has been crappy. So for me, it's a case of doing it while it's there.

To be honest I'm a bit frazzled this morning after a hectic weekend. What the bike being delivered, and actually getting a decent ride in february and Wales beating England, I think I need a couple of days for my serotonin levels to recover.

The transformer looks of Yamahas MT range has grown on me,probably because I see loads of them everyday on here!
Your good health to enjoy bevvo.

I've been looking at SP's for the future. The biggest gripe of the MT range is the suspension. Getting Onlins and fully adjustable forks sounds like a good way around that. I have read that most people find them too stiff as standard though. With Bike's long termer they set it to the comfort setting and said it was great on the road.

So things I like so far are:
- Looks. It just looks lush in those SP colours - similar to R1M.
I'm even sold on the robotic headlights when combined with the sports screen.
- It proper shifts when you hoof it.
- Its an exciting ride with front lifting and skimming the road under power
- Great riding position - upright and wide bars
- Steers nicely at low speed, like less than walking speed - good turning circle and low weight. and easy to push around in the garage
- Quality suspension feels on the firm side of plush - I may back it off a little for the roads I tend to ride. Plenty of adjustableness to play with
- It reminds me of a 12 month old rottweiler. It just wants to play but it doesn't quite know its own strength!
- Its wearing new S21s which felt fine even on cold, dry, february roads
- Quick shifter seems a bit overkill for the road but very pleasing all the same

Yeah I saw that write up. I'm going to start with the 'soft' setting and go from there.

Cracking bike
@bevvo , and definitely on my future bike list. Get it down to Pembrey, you'll soon be making good use of the QS. As you say, they've got plenty of go for most folk.

Jobs list:
- New number plate arrived today. Slightly smaller than standard and back of it is black. Fit that.
- Got some oxford sports premium (if you please) heated grips to go on
- Exhaust pipe swappery and fiddling. Ordered a used akra (the one with MT09 etched on it) off of ebay so try that when it arrives.
- Probably need to experiment with baffling of above
Thats it for now. Will try to remember to take pics.

'fraid so. I got carried away. But I thought I could sell the black widow to offset the cost.
