Can't beat a good walk..!!!
The 5/2 work/rest is pretty shite i reckon, particularly at the moment. The company my lad works for do 4/3, so a decent weekend every week. Saturday comes and my highlight was a solo trip to tesco. Tiger loaf and tomato soup, and a few odds n sods, no perving, everyone's wrapped up. Sunday comes and I need to get out. Boots on, wooly hat and gloves, big coat and water. Set strava and go.
6 miles later and back home ready for 2pm footy and now feeling top of the world. Moral of the story, fresh air and exercise is one hell of a medicine. Go get some.

We've been doing lots of walking in the forest this year, even in the dark, cold rain and snow. Normally between 5 & 10 miles 3 times a week.
Last Saturday we excelled ourselves and did just shy of 14 miles, that is a fuggin long way. The down side is that the dogs have lost so much weight they're now up to 3 meals a day to get a bit of meat back on their bones
I've also worn out the soles of my boots so sent them off yesterday for re-soling

That's my daily routine, first thing in the morning,a hard 5 mile walk in all weather except ice. I don't want to fall on my arse!
Sets me up for the day. I'm a bear if I can't get out.

Re: Can't beat a good walk..!!!
I love walking and have since I was a child. I used to spend holidays with my grandparents in Wiltshire where the walk into town was a couple of miles (which seemed a long way in the heatwave of '76) and every Sunday we'd head in the other direction to walk along lanes and fields. We couldn't go for a walk without a tissue in our pockets and some Opal Fruits to stop us getting thirsty as the advertising slogan was "Opal Fruits, made to make your mouth water" which my Nan must have believed.
I used to walk to work occasionally (4 miles) along the seafront where the sun would come up behind the piers, the traders would be setting up for the day and joggers would bounce past with iPhone headphones. It really set me up for the day.
During the lockdowns I've walked to my Mum's and while it's only 4 miles, it's hardcore as none of it flat. It does however take me past two windmills and about half of the walk is green space.
The walk to my Mum's.

I walk 5 miles on the sea front every day with the dog. Sometimes again in the evening if I'm feeling healthy or need to walk off a bit of weight creeping back on.

Walking is the natural pace of life. If you had to walk five miles to have an argument with someone, you'd think twice about it and if you did decide to walk, you'd have an hour to think about it on the way and be too tired to fight once you got there

not if you play some brain games / trick training and make her use the brain, you'll knacker her out in 20 mins

Definitely should do more walking. I'm not a fan but it's ok when I do it to go touring so I can ski back down!! And I definitely feel the benefit mentally and physically
Sometimes it's as much of a challenge to make myself go out to skit tour as it is to do the walk up the mountain

She's learnt lots of pointless tricks and we also play hiding games with two different toys and and she has to find the right one. That sort of things she likes.
But she likes walk even more.
She is a furry-faced twat of a hound.

Re: Can't beat a good walk..!!!
Was very tempted to ring my mum and step dad and ask if they fancied a socially-distanced walk with the mutt, but given they are down Herne Bay and I'm in the badlands of Bromley, it may be a piss take too far.
My mum's almost completely mutton, so tends to text rather than call. Funny how you can gauge the mood of the sender of a text after a while, and I know my mum's really not in a good place.

Re: Can't beat a good walk..!!!
Took my Mum's mutt for a sniff about at Devils Dyke yesterday. It was very busy, even at 9am. Lovely day for it and helped my back - I've been getting lower back pain for the first time in my life and have assumed it to be a general lack of exercise/movement.
