New Bike!!

Post by Potter »

Blimey, how did that happen.

I was driving past the Royal Enfield shop and thought I'd just call in for a look. One of the blokes working in there is a mate of a mate and as I was looking at an Interceptor we were chatting about bikes and after a while he mentioned a bloke he knows that was looking for either a GSXR or CBR from the late 80's or early 90's (incredible coincidence because he doesn't know I have one). So I show him a picture of the CBR and he goes nuts over it, he sends it to his mate and then the inevitable "is it for sale?" - I say "well...erm, maybe" and before I know it a conversation has been had, he wants to look at it, I head home and the bloke turns up 5 minutes later, he's super excited and he makes me an offer there and then to buy it.

Before I know what's happened he's riding away on it and as I watched him turn the corner I felt a pang of seller remorse and a bit sad, so I phoned the bloke at the shop to cheer myself up and said "Hey, you know that Interceptor...".

With a bit of discount it worked out to about 25% cheaper here than the UK RRP and the bloke gave me what I gave CC for the CBR, so I can't complain.
It's paid for, I collect it this week when I've got time :)

Nice bikes, bit bland compared to the 500 single (but then I would say that) :)

You've gotta bolt some hipster tat to it!

It's unlikely.
I think if anything I might find some smaller end cans and do something with the rear end, but I have no interest in tat these days, I'm all about just riding it and you don't see what it looks like when you're riding it.

Geezer I know that has one said to buy some Renthals, but I'll see.

Depending on how bored I get in the summer when it's too hot to sail I might go back on all that and go a bit mental now I've got access to a proper metalwork workshop. But I'll do a full on special if I do - Ohlins twin shocks and full bling upside down gold Ohlins forks, CNC triple clamps and a single seat conversion and probably bling wheels.

Have to see.
Chances are I'll just ride it for what it is.

Congrats, looks like fun. Sorry the CBR has gone, I really enjoyed that bike and since selling it back to Couchy I've oftern thought about having another one, not for any particular purpose, but they just put a smile on your face.
I'm sure the RE will give you lots of smiles though, never heard of anyone being disappointed :)

The Baak stuff is silly money for proper hipsters.

You'll find the factory stuff from India is dirt cheap.

If you order any parts from Hitchcocks in the UK they'll send you a catalogue, it's a proper sit on the bog and read thing that covers all the bikes from 1950ish up to the modern 650.

I always fancied a Firebird, I reckon that Inty would be cheaper, faster and more reliable :)

It gets good reviews but most of them say the budget suspension lets it down a bit.

Yeah I get it, it's a funny bike to end up with to be honest, I don't think this type of bike would have appealed to me as a younger bloke. I could have anything I wanted and I chose this, twenty years ago I'd have rushed to Ducati and bought their best bike in the shop, but tastes change I suppose.

First impressions (before riding it) is that the riding position seems comfortable and the quality is not bad. It's obviously made to a budget, the most obvious bit of that was I didn't have to part with much to buy it. Some bits look quite reasonable, as good as any other budget Jap bike and some bits are obviously a bit more budget orientated, the fork lowers, headlamp brackets, etc - better than a Chinese 125 though.

Frankly, for what I've paid it's a steal and there is three years unlimited mileage warranty.
And the customer service was everything you dream of in a bike shop, those guys really are passionate and very proud of the brand, I feel like if it broke down they'd be more upset about it than me.

It's one of those purchases that just fits into your life quietly, it's cheap enough that if I don't like it I haven't buried my lifes savings into it and it has the potential to be great value for money if I like it a lot.

I'll report back once I've ridden it.

I think RE have come up with some very interesting bikes over the last few years, worthy of a space in many a garage. 👍
