Everyone knows how the Japanese Domestic Market models differ from what the UK actually imports, all those fun 400's in the 90's, etc...

I thought the Septics got pretty much what we did, but occasionally different colours.

What I didn't know was that in the USA you can buy 2021 model DRZ400S and DR650S.

I thought both had been killed off years ago, but not in America!

Anyone spotted anything is other markets that they'd love to see in the UK?

I quite like the look of some of the Asian 150cc sports bikes too.

The SP1 got a much more appropriate name in the US...it was the RC51.

I kind of fancied a Yamaha SDR200 which had the same engine as a DT200.
I can't say I've ever seen one in the flesh and never realised they came in these colours but given the choice I want one that looks like this.
They were never a UK market bike and IIRC a Japanese market import thing.

Back in the nineties there was Grey Bike, a monthly mag devoted to bike for other markets, in fact there were loads of mags.Used Bike Guide was another, must have a dig in the shed maybe I’ve still got them.

Trail Bike Mag was a favourite of mine.

I used to buy Grey Bike, it's the reason I've owned three CBR400, a VFR400 and 400 Bros and an FZR400.

When I started the thread I was thinking more about stuff that you can actually buy new now.

Like how Honda make loads of small capacity trail stylee bikes in Brazil or funky scoots in Thailand, etc...

Not very exciting, I know, but I quite like the Honda Navi from the Indian market. Would make an interesting alternative to a scooter for commuting. Note the removable storage bin under the tank.

Removing the bin may change stuff....it doesn't change ugly.

These days even the JDM 400s don't seem special. Cbr400? It's a sleeved down cbr500. Cb400sf? It's basically the same as a 1992 bike, just with ABS, EFI, LEDs, and VTEC added.

Its actually 50bhp now apparently...only available in Indonesia. Much like with the Jap 400s of the 90s its license/tax thing....thus even well-off experienced bikers are forced into buying the little 250 and it comes with more premium bits on it, rather than being a more novice bike as in Europe.

Its 168KG though, needs to way lighter than that.

My Bandit is a JDM 750, it's a really odd beast.

The front part of the frame is the same as the UK 600, but the back is the same as a UK1200 with bolt on pillion hangers.

The engine is a 748cc that supposedly puts out 85bhp and it's restricted to 112mph, although mine is de-restricted and will do over 120 indicated even now.

The clocks are like a 1200 with a fuel gauge and there are no grab rails.

The nips did a CBR750 back in the day too.

I think there was a 1000cc version too but they did have gear driven cams like a CBR400,

BMWs in the USA used to have 3 year warranty, when UK bikes were 1 year.

Oh what fun to be had on their stand at the bike show, asking whether it was possible to buy one to US spec as they must be better built
