2021 cycling goals, targets, aims and ambitions.

Post by weeksy »

It's been a weird 2020 as we all know, but i've done a decent mileage overall i think, along with some brilliant days out etc.

It was a shame to miss both Morzine and the SDW this year, but we had a few epic trips to places like Bike Park Wales, which helped.

2021, i'm hoping will bring a return in Aug to Morzine, even if only for 2-3 days of riding. I'm also planning BPW at least once a month with the boy.

I'd like to do a full Ridgeway too as i've never done it end to end. I don't know the northern end of the Ridgeway at all actually. I know roughly where it goes, but that's as good as it gets.

I also have a target of the 6' drop at Swinley Summit.

It's currently a little beyond my balls level, but i'm really hoping and planning to work myself up to it, i'm currently doing the 4' but there's no 5' to progress on... LOL.. It'd be nice to have a 5' just to give me that little safety margin of error. But i'll get there.

Out of interest, are you following Jedi's technique when you're doing jumps and drops?

TBH, no targets for me but only because I never set targets. If I had to hold myself to something, it would be:

- find places to ride around north Kent. We have some hills but apparently not many good trails.
- explore more of the Surrey Hills than just the area around Peaslake - ideally I'd like to find Redlands and ride Ranmore Common.
- head to Friston Forest.
- Head to Swinley for the skills area.
- more days at BPW, Cwmcarn and FoD.

It's a bit of a pain living in Medway. Plenty of hills and road cycling but not much for MTB and it's a bit of a hike for anything decent. #firstworldproblems

Just get out on it a bit more, explore a bit further afield locally rather than keep doing the same loops.

Try to get some fitness back after two stupid crashes knocked my ring back quite badly in the second half of this year, oh and not crash.

Lads trip to Dartmoor as well.

Let me know when you go to Morzine. It isn't that far away and I have friends in Chamonix that I can meet up with too!!

For me, I'm selling the turbo trainer as I don't have anywhere to store it for the winter so will have to 'hang' the bike somewhere!!

But next summer I want to be able to start cycling on the road and get a bit fitter. I'm not a proper cyclist like the rest of you but I do have a ridiculous target of cycling from the valley up to resort one day. Only need to do that once!

Mountain biking scares the wits out of me, so don't plan to do that at all, but will watch others!! (A friend fell whilst I was in rehab and broke her shoulder!! - I don't need to risk that again!!)
Life is for living. Buy the shoes. Eat the cake. Ride the bikes. Just, ride the bikes!! :bblonde:

I’ve been watching loads of GMBN/EMBN videos (it’s usually on as background noise) and they’ve got me doubting my technique now. I think I need to go to Swinley and practice.

Sadly there's not a lot there to help you, unless we're talking tabletop ?

Fod skills are is 1000 times better for praticing both jumps and drops. They've totally rebuilt it recently and it's absolutely fab now.

Just say the date and we're there :)

My goals are to target an improvement in my Vo2 Max which is going to be painful, hopefully this will lead to an increase in FTP.

A few mates and I are going to have a bash at doing LEJOG in 7 days.

May have another go at racing, not decided yet.

I ordered and payed for it back in July. Whyte are struggling to get order’s out, so it’s just a waiting game, the bike shop waiting for the delivery but apparently it’s on a boat somewhere not being allowed to dock (not sure how true that is)

Silly thing is they told me a delivery date at the end of September and I sold my Boardman. Now I have no MTB 😂😂😂

You do realise that bike delivery dates are about as realistic as the CrossRail finish date😂😂😂.

At least it may have dried out by the time it arrives.

Not since September it hasn't, longest wait here is usually a couple of days, anymore than that and the ship goes to it's next port of call and unloads everything there and it's shipped from there to where it needs to go.

This year try and keep up the mileage at 2 or 3 rides a week and when not on the MTB then static bike in the gym.

I might even buy a new bike to replace the 16 year old GT Avalanche that has served me superbly well although i had to laugh at one on Ebay the same as mine listed at £285 :o
