I really really wanted an early 90's GSXR1100, so to day I've been out and bought a late 90's BMW K1200RS.

98, 27k on the clock, new tyres and a newish rear Hagon
shock, panniers... £1850.




Pick it up tomogga if I can get some cash, the pensioner seller doesn't do internet banking!

I have no idea why, but I've wanted one of those for a while.

Right, I'm back home now, I posted originally from the phone.

I'd just taken the picture. It's top clean and all the plastics are good, there's some corrosion in the hidden away bits. They picture makes it look better than it is, but it's not terrible.

It's a pre 2000 one so no silly servo brakes either.

I set myself a little winter project... buy, tax and insure a bike to be used for pillion duties (and some winter garage tinkering) for £2k max. This should fit the bill, if it doesn't come spring I'm sure I'll get what I paid for it, if not more.

She did. Then she got reminded of all the new things she'd had this year. It was a double whammy as it's her birthday and I took her bike shopping!

I've just realised... it's going to be the largest capacity, most powerful bike I've ever owned!

It's a good 10bhp and 20ftlb up on my old Blade.

The old fella just wanted to talk bikes all day and I was happy to oblige. He had a VFR750, FZR600, Original Fireblade a couple of classic and a moped he'd just bought. He's a serial bike buyer and is happy to sell them as long as he gets what he paid for them. He's only put 57 miles on the Beemer, and that was the mileage from the bloke he bought it from in Lincolnshire. With the cash from this sale he's off to buy an FZR400 from a mate.

I offered a bank transfer and pulled out my smartphone... he pulled out his £5 Nokia and said he'd prefer cash as he didn't do internet banking.

It hard to get proper cash innit. I've got loads in the bank, but they're closed. I've managed £750 out of cash machines so far, it'll get another £750 tomogga and the FiL just happens to have some cash laying around to top it up.

I'll take some proper pics when I get it home.

A big Beemer is in my future bike list ....

The bus is home... and I only broke down twice on the way home!

The rear calliper seized on. Freed it off once then it did it again 2 miles later.

Called the wife and she brought me some pliers to pull the pad pins out and remove the pad for the rest of the trip (I was only 10 miles from home).

Initial thoughts...

The pegs are high, they almost look like raised foot pegs, they're not straight from the pivot, they step up. I'll post a pic tomorrow.

It's a giant moped. 3rd gear for everything.

It's jolly fast.

Its floaty, smooths out a lot of the worst British roads can throw at it.

Which fucking idiot invented BMW indicators?

It's smooth on the throttle, but there's a bit of vibration when off the throttle.

So far so good.

Need to strip that rear calliper before anything else.

The weirdy beardies will be along shortly to tell you the indicators are to encourage countersteering.

Has it got an incredibly loud hi lo nautilus horn?

Which doesn’t cancel the indicators I’ve found repeatedly.

Give them a few days, you might just get used to them.

Re footrests. Older K bikes had them angled back.
