I live in a country I don't know, so I need navigation most of the time.

I prefer to have the screen just inside the mirror rather than central, perhaps screwed in under the mirror thread (cb300r, old school naked mirrors).

What phone holders do you ugly lot use?

quadlock seem to be one the mounts of choice on mountainbikes so will work perfectly on a motorbike.

Unfortunately my phone, a Samsung a5 2017, is too old or low rent for these. I'm planning on keeping it as long as possible though, as it was the last waterproof phone that Samsung did without buying a Galaxy range topper.

Apart from that, I'm not sure I want to have to keep my phone in a bulky case for this purpose. The stick on adapter looks terrible.

It's a tiny place but equally a maze of one way tiny streets, I can barely find my way to work if I take one wrong turn.

I have one of these twistyride cases that fits my iphone. It came to me via Adam who had it first then upgraded his phone, then E man had it till an upgrade then me.

Fits to the bar via a ram mount and powered it off a long USB lead plugged into an underseat socket

Fair enough. I normally try to go the wrong way, it's more fun. I might try the phone holder thing, although last time I did I wasn't that impressed by the security of them.

I have a Ram mountwhich I transfer from one bike to the the other for my Garmin and a long and short arm. On one bike it fits centrally on the other the left hand clip on just nect to the mirror. We also have three suction cup ram mounts which we use in the cars.

Keep the phone in your pocket and fit one of these instead?

This feel like a good idea, but there's often little rabbit warrens of one way streets. "Turn left in 100 yards" and there's a left in 90 that turns out to not actually count as a road then the left in 100 yards. So a standalone satnav isn't a bad idea (although, do people still do that?) But it'd need a proper screen.

I have a Garmin mount on mine ....works well for pre programmed routes but needs to be set up properly for "get me to this postcode" as it can take you down goat tracks which might be 100 metres or 10 seconds quicker than a nice paved road. Either connected to helmet intercom for voice prompts or just rely on the screen which is mostly what i do

Quite a few modern cars do 'mirroring' of your smartphone for Satnag.

Even the wife's Aygo does it.

I've spotted that the new RE Meteor 350 does it too.

Cheaper than a full on Satnav and uses the latest google service for mapping and traffic.

I expect more bikes (and after market devices) to use the smartphone mirroring facility.
