Spent an hour or so on this thing on Sat evening. It was a mates wifes bike and in an S3, they all felt the S3 would be too small, but S3 is my happy place with Specialized, so i was content :)

Don't ask me about power, or battery, but both are apparently pretty low. I think he said 300whr battery and mabye 300w power.. but can't be sure.

It was running AXS, but the shifter was in a place i couldn't really reach, so getting gears was pretty tricky... the brakes were new version Code Silver and were utterly pointless :D
The suspension was set to a 70kg womans weight... So threw in a few bottom-outs and some pedal strikes :D

However it was a really really good bike and ride. I think these sort of things are the sweet spot for Emtb for me in the fact that they still ride nicely and are poppy enough, but they also give you the GO you need on some of the climbs. It was running a ranger extender and started the day at 150% and ended dead on 100%, i'm not sure what that equated to in terms of usage, but was less than the mate who was a little quicker but pushing massive gears, i was trying to spin it more than power it.
Can't really fault the thing though.

As always, it changes how/what you ride in a way, you do the same thing, but either suffer less or go faster on bits. I certainly worked hard and came back sweating lots... but matey is a fast rider and XC god, so we were pushing on a bit :D

Certainly makes me think that the SL/lightweight is more 'me' than a big power beast.

As e-bikes go that looks nice (to my eyes at least).

Just about to build my Whyte eLyte up...

Bought the 140 Works for £4999 from Winstanleys a short while ago, whilst selling my Canyon Neuron OnFly (nice bike, but wanted the Whyte)... Was bought with the pure intention of stripping to get the frame only out of the deal... I now own an eLyte frameset (inc motor, battery etc.) that owes me the measly sum of £2k!

Anyway...

I'm all over this... For ride feel, a 20kg eBike with fast rolling tyres does little to nothing to dull the experience of riding an MTB for me. I do enjoy full power eBikes, and have got more used to them, and they have got better and better, but I'd actively choose a mid power/SL eBike pretty much every time over a full power for pure ride feel and enjoyment for the kind of riding I do...

Sadly there aren't many of us... 90% of my riding mates are on full power eBikes, and most of them use all of the power all of the time, so I need a full power to keep up with those boys!

Currently not an issue here. Me and Crust have ridden together for 20+ years and have switched between fastest and slowest more than once. Currently he's on the eeb so faster on the flat/hills but slower on the down. It wouldn't work for everyone but seems to work OK for us. I certainly don't think i tire him out too much, but it keeps him honest at times :)
I can deffo see why it wouldn't work for many others though.

When we move to FoD (eventually !!!!) i'm not sure who i'll ride with, so don't know the dynamics yet.

These days you don’t have to choose low power or small battery to get a lightweight ebike, my Megamo is 21.7kg and there’s a carbon version and a lighter weight version that are both around 20kg.
With the avinox motor being so adjustable you can set power to lower levels and with the 800wh battery have a huge range.
I’m surprised no one has made a lower powered avinox with a smaller battery though as that would have to be around 18kg.

Can't ever get down to that weight for the riding people want out of an eeb though.

If they want to eeb they want to session trails (generally) which means beefier forks, wheels and tyres, air-can shocks and DD/DH rubber, there's a price to pay for that. An average 'enduro' manual these days is 18kg, so adding a battery and a motor has to put it to 20.
