Too hot for the shed so watching some yourube videos. This one on thread repairs was interesting.....

I used to work for a firm that reconditioned turbochargers and we used the V-coil inserts. 4mm up to 12mm threads in cast iron, steel and aluminium and never had one fail. They always felt much stronger than the original threads although we didn't carry out any proper testing.
