You've got £0-1500 to buy a bike to win Inters, what you buying?

I'm thinking ZX6R or an SV650 and some testosterone injections?

You can get a leggy Zx9R for the money, but it'll need tyres and will probably be pretty tired.

Thunderace, may be a bit lardy, but has a shit load of power.

If it has to be pre 2000 I think the SV650 came out in 1999 so you could only use a Gen 1 carb version.
I'd look for a CBR600/FZR/600/ZX6/GSXR6.
For something a bit different a CB500 twin or Suzuki 600 Bandit.
Go up to £2500 & there's a lot more choice.

I quite enjoyed my ZX9R C2 and it went well around Cadwell ☺️

I ran a Triumph T595 for a year or so - as long as you big enough to muscle it around, surprisingly good on track. I had many good days on mine....

Even years ago, the linkages were all seized, the idle valve hoses cracked and the non return valves failed, and on mine the ignition coil insulation was broken. I don't suppose there's many good ones there for 1500.

Early 90's CBR600
A well sorted one like the one I bought off CC/GP would win at most UK tracks in inters.

I wonder where that is? I sold it to a bloke in Dubai and I've never seen it again.

GSXR 750 is the answer.

Damn you all!!!

Now, despite not being able to afford or ride a bike this year, I'm now looking at Thundercats and Thunderaces :( :(

And I found an orange Thundercat - which was always the dream

I didn't rate my GSX-R750 that highly as a track tool - admittedly was a K6 so doesn't fit the criteria but didnt really gel.

Other bike I had that was cheap and good was a 929 'blade - actually the bike behind me in my pic above being ridden by my nephew.

98 onwards ZX6R, a mate of mine lapped everyone in the fast group twice in one at Cadwell on a Classic Bike Track day a few years ago when I had my FZR400R, but his might be worth more than £1500.

But my days of being quick are long gone, last time I was at the fast end of Inters was in 2002 on an FZR600R, I'm now more middle of slow group.

Should have kept my tricked up 98 Blade really, but it was taking up garage space and I wasn't riding it.

I quite fancy a Millie, but it seems I've missed the boat and they're starting to go back up again.

I do think the late 90's ZX6R is probably the sweet spot, they're just a little bland.

But then this beauty is about 10 mins away from my house...

GSX-R750 or an alloy frame CBR600. Both mentioned before.

Yeah, but I could fit a plywood dash to the Thundercat like my idol DaveN!

I bought a brand new ZX6R in 1999. Only had it 2 days.
Blew it up and swapped for ZX9R. Far better
