Just prompted by summat the Priest said about weddings.

We've been married 30 years next year and we got hitched in Jamaica as neither of us wanted a big wedding. Just us, in-laws, friends who were our best man & maid of honour (or whatever nonsense they call it) plus sis-in-law and her other half at the time.
Really informal, choice of beach or gardens (we went beach) and a little reception after for the wedding party. No speeches, no stress. Proper chilled day. Still waiting for the official, typed wedding certificate to this day. There's Jamaican efficiency for you.

And the father-in-law insisted on paying for the whole wedding, not least as it was a package deal for £199.

Couldn't afford to get married, nor particularly wanted to give our financial state, but I had a health scare and I wanted her to have widows pension and death in service benefits if it did go tits up. So we decided to take our kids and elope to Gretna Green!

We extended an invitation to family on the condition they paid for themselves if they wanted to attend. They did and did! Lovely ceremony in a little chapel just outside the town, we all stayed there and had our wedding meal there etc. What started out as a legal process became an incredibly emotional and lovely day. Not a dry eye in the house during the ceremony.

When we got home we had a reception for friends and family who couldn't be there. I knew man who knew a man who had a marquee he rented out. Favours that were owed were cashed in and it was put up in my In-Laws garden and it only cost us £125.

We bought a 2nd hand big fridge and filled it full of duty free we got prior to going to Scotland. Paid another friend of a friend who was a barmaid to run the bar for the night. Mates son is a dj and did the music. The night was legendary with everyone joining in and even blokes like me that don't normally dance, did a. Fantastic night.

Got married in Gibraltar, in the botanical gardens. It was alright.

Same type of thing, we'd been together since we were kids, already had two kids, mortgage, dog, etc and said marriage wasn't necessary, but then she decided it was, so we went up to Scotland, we paid for some immediate family and invited the others if they pay for themselves.

It ended up being a brilliant few days, we got married on Valentines Day and it lashed it down with rain for weeks either side but on that one day the sun came out for us and we had a nice day of it.
Almost thirty years ago.

My daughters wedding was the event of a lifetime, I'm not going to share a load of personal details but it was amazing, like something out of Hello magazine and it all went without a hitch. We've now got one grandson and another on the way.

Fibbed about being married in order to rent a place. (They used to do that sort of thing). Said 'This is a bit of a palaver, we might as well be married'.

'Yeah' said she.

So we booked in, found a witness and got married in the Registry Office. Invited the close family, made some fancy clobber - wife looked like one of Galadriel's mates. (It was that sort of time).

Got married, had a meal at a hotel. M-i-L said 'Oh well, it's as easy to get divorced as it is married'.

That was 50+ years ago.

The thing that stands out was it took me a while to realise why they served us first out of about 100 folk

Hired a fancy converted barn, 100 family and friends getting pissed.

Wolverhampton registry office, almost 44 years ago. Reception was in the Clarendon Hotel, which was next door to the Banks' brewery. Cost me £125

We'd been together 15 years when we decided to get married, registry office, just us, our mums and our daughter, really good ceremony, it felt really special, my only regret is not getting married in Vegas when we there in 1997, we got married in 2005

Married in 1999. St Jude's Courtfield Gardens in Earl's Court. We had a very small wedding, paid for our parents to come from SA and Hungary and for their accommodation. I bought all the wine in France, but managed to buy the most excellent vintages (I know something of wine) and spent not much on it all. Living in our community, the chef said all we had to do was give them the budget and they would sort everything out as our wedding gift and they did the most amazing job with not much! Really fabulous. My wife had a beautiful simple wedding dress she worked a year for as an au pair and managed to get what she wanted. Cost about £500 if I remember correctly, but worth every penny, she was (and still is) stunning. I wore my kilt and shirt with jabot that my mum had made. I even had hair then! Our vicar would not let us pay for the wedding fees, it was covered by someone in the congregation, as were the flowers in the church. My uncle played the organ (he was a concert organist). My aunt come over from Seattle and my brother flew in from SA on his own ticket.

We had the most amazing day, married by our chaplain who remained my dearly beloved friend for over 30 years. He was a wise gentleman of the most sound character, a cravat wearer and poet, with excellent taste in red wine.

I met my future wife whilst living and working in China. I was working in Guangdong province in the south of China .

Long story short, my wife worked for ABB. We met, everything clicked. Her parents live in Shanghai. When it was suggested to her parents that her daughter wanted to marry a guiallo, there was some concern.

We were both summoned to travel to Shanghai for a interview to ensure I was a suitable chap for marriage .

I passed the test .

For a western guy to marry a Chinese women in China is not easy, loads of hoops to jump through, so we we went to plan B

At that time, by chance my sister was the top honcho for births, deaths and marriages on the Isle of Wight .

My sister contacted her counterpart here in West Yorkshire . Between them they arranged all the formality’s

We we married in a country house. My sister performed the wedding service. My wife wore a traditional Chinese wedding dress
know as a Qi Pau

50 years this July.

Lots of people said it won't last.

The wedding was a showcase for the in laws. Coach and horses on the way to the church, The yellow Rolls Royce on the way to the reception. (check out the movie). Big hotel and lots of people we didn't know. (fil's freemason chums)

Fil a self made millionaire and a complete bell end; the fil is now 91, loaded and still a complete bell end. Nothing changes other than he's of no consequence to our lives anymore. (No, we don't have his money)

We've two wonderful kids, three beautiful grandchildren and life's good.

Black jeans, steel toecap boots and a purple shirt. All my childhood i said to my mum that if i ever get married it will be in my jeans. She seemed surprised on the day

My first (albeit previous long-term cohabiting), Filly's second.

I didn't want church, neither of us wanted typical afternoon into evening reception.

Registry Office, limited to 40 people, reception on a canal barge, also limited to 40. Very close family and a few friends.

So we had a big pre-reception pub skittles night for rellies and friends.

No 'father of the bride' speech. Instead, we had a 'radio play', with almost half the group taking part (including one playing Filly's dog and another doing special effects). It told the story of our blind date (which went badly ).

5pm, off the boat. We cleared off to a hotel, several others went for a meal somewhere local.
