Hi..

So what do you take in your "tour kit " I thinking .

Few spanners / screw drivers
Replacement fuses
Bulbs if you're not led lights
Chain lube
Bit of oil

What else do you throw in?

Or are you an " overseas breakdown cover / credit card only " tourer?

A copy of my travel insurance/breakdown cover.

If I need anything else when away I'll just buy it (that goes for underpants too).

I took a mini can of chain lube away once. It rained almost everyday and I did 2,800 miles in 12 days. The lube lasted three days.

It's one of the reasons I only tour on cardan drive bikes now.

I ride a BMW.

In all seriousness, I tend to carry stuff like that on the bike anyway, breakdowns happen anywhere, not just when you're on holiday, so I don't change the kit, but I will carry paperwork I might not carry day to day.

Puncture repair, cable ties, biscuits that don't melt.

When I was doing it....the legally required stuff, wally vests, spare bulbs, triangle etc. as per the countries en route.

Basic tool kit.

Puncture repair kit + small 12v pump.

(Luggage space wasn't usually a problem...apart from when we rode to Germany via Belgium, France, Luxembourg - to get some luggage fitted Then it was spare underwear and toothbrushes ).

Puncture repair kit and a credit card, on a newish bike what are going to be able to fix by the side of the road?

I've been touring 40 years.
Couple of screwdrivers. Hex keys. That's it. Pliers.

Never needed any of it.

(And arse if stuck by the road for many hours, i presume!)

FWIW, in the UK, a good handful of roadside grass will get most of the crud off your hands.

Visor, etc.

I insist on few things but must have good lighting and vintage Taittinger.

Zip ties, head light, compact air compressor, latex gloves.
Edit: duct tape

Most of the above minus triangle, biscuits and bulbs plus an emergency medical kit.

While I have never had to fix a puncture on my own bike, I have loned others my repair kit. Apart from that, I used a small square of gaffer tape last year on the off switch of my satnav.

But if you don't take it, that's when you will need it

The toolkit supplied by the factory plus zip ties, tyre repair kit, spare tube and inflator. I have a spare headlight bulb, a relay and I need to add some fuses. There's a spare clutch cable zip tied to the one in use. Anything more than that and all I will need is a box of matches / lighter.

I take the same kit that I use over here,12v compressor & puncture repair kit plus a few spanners.I also take out a European breakdown policy.
The worst experience I've had was getting a knackered Kawasaki Z650 back from Barcelona to Lancashire.Somewhere in Germany the clutch cable snapped,I got that sorted then in the middle of Barcelona the fuel tap started pissing fuel all over the motor.A local bike shop plastic welded a fuel tap from a Yamaha XS 400 twin,charged me nothing then a few days later it started using lots of oil & running on 3 cylinders.I managed to nurse it back home & strip it down.A valve stem oil seal had failed
Lesson learned? It's a good idea to take a reliable bike...
