Are we in a simulation?

Post by IccyV2 »

Apparently the most advanced AI was asked what the likelihood was that we are living in a simulation and after considering all the data that mankind has amassed over a few thousand years it predicted that its a 25% chance that we are.
The way it was explained to me is that that level of prediction from an advanced technology intelligence should worry us a lot.

If we're in a sim then one would assume that people somewhere are running the sim and watching us.

As we all experience the world in a very unique way, I guess we're living in our own simulation. We control, to a great extent, how we interact and respond, bar those autonomous actions.

Matrix......

Does it matter if we're in a master simulation or not?

Honestly, with everything that's going on in the world and all the unbelievable things that so called world leaders are doing, it wouldn't surprise me at all.

I wake up everyday and wonder what batshit crazy things have happened overnight and surely the madness will end soon??

Current "AI" systems are not intelligent
They are merely statistical analysis engines tied to natural language models.

They are nothing more than advanced search engines.

That's apparently the scary part, it just ran the probability and it was 25% based on the information on the internet.
No emotion, no overthinking it, just the mathematical probability based on the data.

In this particular case, I would have put it down to hardware. ;)

Not quite, it means that from the scraped data there has been enough close associations between the words "this" , "is", "a" and "simulation" for the statistical association analysis to produce a result of 25%. (Those associations could also be talking about SIM City 2000, You've no idea where the searches information is coming from).

It doesn't mean that some of of those positive associations didn't have the word "not" also closely associated.

This is why all AI results are a load of bollox.

It doesn't matter whether this is a simulation or not or whether this is a deterministic universe or not... you have to live your life based on the assumption that you have free will and this is real. What's the alternative?

I think it’s fundamentally a much bigger question, like are we part of a grand design or all totally random and none of it matters anyway.

Dead, alive, Schrodenger’s cat, is it all a load of old bollocks.
Perhaps we’re the intelligence that never should have been, monkeys that became self aware and now think we’re actually more than a bag of meat and that we actually matter.

Next time I think I’ll come back as a tree.

No. We live in a dimension. Final answer.

Well, you could try introducing the roll of the dice to everyday life. (Although some would suggest the results of the dice throw are predetermined/predictable :hmmm: ).

(Or find the door as per The Truman Show and find out what's really going on).

Edit: a bit more on the plot of The Dice Man in a review here -

It amused me because it starts....

Some men just buy expensive sports cars or a motorbike when they have a midlife crisis. Psychiatrist Luke Rhinehart decides to live his life by the whims of the die.

The entire universe may have an internal mind—or the whole idea of consciousness could be a sham. Here’s why scientists still can’t agree.
