Would you risk buying a bike without an MOT - or is that just daft?

Depends on what i see when I inspect it myself.
Obviously it would affect the price I'd be willing to pay.

That very much depends, on the bike, the age, the miles, the condition, the owner etc. I'd certainly buy one... But i'd want someone there with me if i were inexperienced who knows bikes and can look it over.

If you have half an idea about whats tested in the MOT and confident enough to do similar test yourself then it might be worth a punt.
The motorcycle MOT is pretty simple.
If you're not mechanically minded, then you could end up buying a bike that needs loads of work to pass an MOT.
Some stuff is easy to check, like that the lights/indicators and horn all work and there's tread on the tyres, other stuff like checking wheel bearings and headraces are easy if you know how, but might be beyond some people.

I don't know if that's a good or bad price for one, but nothing screams at me that I can see

You could always play the "put a test on it and you've got a deal" card.
Even offer to pay for the test.. if it passes.

when I was selling my Honda recently, it had two months MOT left. But the seller wanted a years ticket. For the sake of the sale I put the MOT on it and it passed with flying colours (I knew it would) and he bought it with confidence. Emailed me last week to say he is loving it.

When people list a bike on ebay and the like - do they expect the price to be knocked down a bit - and if so by how much.. I'm rubbish at all this negotiating malarkey

I'd offer £650, with the reason being it's not got an MOT, with the hope of getting it at £700.

My other option is a Honda CBR - with a full MOT - (passed 2 days ago) .. with 13K miles .. it's more money £1,150... similar age - slightly better condition. (to look at)

I bought a Repsol Rep CBR125 for the wife almost 10 years ago now. Sound little bikes, but have a tiny oil capacity, so make sure it's got some evidence of servicing.

Its relatively easy to check the potentially expensive stuff.

800 quid for a 125 with no ticket that's been up the road?

The clocks have 2 different mounting bolts, so they've been off.
That whole bike screams "Deliveroo"
