Why have i had to restore every single internet connected item in my house?

Ok, computer people, humour me, as I need to know.
My ISP is Virgin - we have been having flaky service for a few weeks which finally delivered a 3 day outage over the weekend. Not knowing that it was Virgin supplying a completely unstable net work, I initailly thought it was my TP Link Deco system.
With the mesh system you set up one nodule as the 'MAIN" - that then feeds the restof them (another 3). In my frustration I factory reset the main Deco, thinking it was at fault. When the Virgin supply internet returned , everything started working again. The main deco was re-set up with the same wifi network name and password. I was thinking this would mean that all items in the house would just hook up and start working again.
Not a chance - every single internet linked item - other than PCs and phones have had to have both the wifi network and password revalidated.
Why?
(The good thing is is I held back on buying a new mesh system - that nearly happened on Saturday)
