I keep looking at Electric assist bikes (2nd hand) and can get something that resembles a standard mountain bike for 500 quid. I dont want some shit from Shenzhen in China that will set my house on fire who what is a safe couple of brands and what size frame for someone with a 34" inside leg?
This bike will probably just be for nipping down the town so never looking at huge range. As long as the battery assist will last a week i would be happy.

Years back I had a couple of Wisper bikes and did thousands of miles on each, the electrical side was brilliant on both but as with any cheapish pushbike the bike parts were a bit fragile. That worked for me as the bike bits were pretty easy to get and swap.
Support was good and it's an English company (with factory in China of course), they have been around a few years so you may well see well priced 2nd hand examples. Upshot is you should still be able to get replacement parts for their bikes.
For frame sizing that's not easy, it's a bit variable like womens clothing sizes.

Just had a quick google at them. I can get something new that fits the bill for around £1300. 2nd hand from 400. plan is 2nd hand so see if i use it much. I am happy to walk into town just now but parts of me are starting to ache in the colder weather. Takes just as long to walk as get the van fired up and park just to return home and loose the last parking space

Wife is making noise about a bike also. That should be a laugh
