I have a history of racing unsuitable, shit, old, slow bikes.

I've raced a air cooled RD250 and an XBR500 with the Earlystocks Club, did three season on an air cooled Ducati 620ie with the Desmo Due club and two seasons as a passenger on a B.E.A.R's K100 outfit with BHR.

I thought I'd hung up my racing leathers, however...

The Earlystocks club have a class for:

Pre 1993 British & European machines 225cc to 675cc & any pre 1993 225cc to 675cc Four Stroke Twin or Single Cylinder machines.

Which means you can race early GPZ500's and GS500's.

I'm kind of half tempted to try and race a GPZ500 (because they didn't change much the class usually cuts off a 1993, but GPZ's you can race up to 2004).

This is a really stupid idea, right?

Laverda Montjuic, although the noise test will be a bigger challenge than any competitor.

Nah, it's an excellent idea IMO - don't think I've ever seen anyone race a GPZ500, but the motors go reasonably well for what they are so reckon that should be a goer

I'm guessing the 1993 cut-off is to keep CB500s out, as I think the first ones were 94-ish, or are they allowed too?

And if you change your mind / fancy an easier (in theory ) and possibly cheaper option than race-prepping a GPZ , grab yourself one of these beauties and come and join me and your old DD muckers at NG!

I reckon you've already made your mind up. But just in case: do it!!!

The inlaws bought an old moho on the cheap with a duff gearbox. They tried to fix it, but it's still not right, but drivable, they've had it years and done bugger all with it. Her indoors reckons they'd let us have it.

I'd never go racing in the UK without a moho. I sold the last one when I stopped racing.

I need my mate Steve Saucepipe to buy in, it's more fun it you can race with your mates.

I had a GPz500 for a couple of years it, it bought out the worst in me and thrived on being thrashed. Do it, it should be great fun

What do the series rules allow? I assume you'll not be fitting zx636 forks and a turbo, but what is the limit?

Can't change forks much, there's a max diameter limit. You can fit cartridge emulators tho' or forks from the same manufacturer that aren't USD or larger than the diameter limit from a different model (I fitted YPVS forks to my aircooled RD)

IIRC the ACU do not allow any forced induction race bikes, regardless of club/bike.

The Roolz are on the Earlystocks webshite.

Engine tuning is allowed as long as you don't exceed class capacity limits or add extra valves, cylinders, etc..
