Last Hurrah Bike?

I'm now nearer to 70 than 60, and so thinking my time riding quick, powerful bikes is nearing the end. So, what do I buy?

This will be my bike for local rides mostly 40 to 50 miles, occassionally 200 mile day rides. Discounted quite a few recommended to me because I don't like the looks or the egonomics were wrong for me. And I seek something a bit exotic, less run of the mill.

I have found a bike I like that I had not considered until I saw one in a dealers last week.

An Aprilia RSV4 1100RR Tuono. I have read up on them and itgey seem to have either poor or good reputation regarding reliability. But I have owned Italian bikes before, so know they need a bit more attention than my NC750 does (36,000 miles in 2½ years on that)

I doubt I'll be doing more that 3,000kms a year on it, if that) as its going to be a toy to enjoy my last few years riding fast bikes.

Anything else anyone recommends, but no ADV bikes though? Upto around £10k available, although Spanish prices are way higher for used bikes than they are in the UK.

What about an MV Brutale, there are a million different flavours/engine versions, sure to find something in budget.

At past the 70 mark now,I have lusted after a V4 Tuono myself, but the horror stories have so far stayed my hand. My own exhaustive research suggests the earlier 21-23 bikes seem to have better build quality and less electrical gremlins. Maybe worth looking at those to dip your toe in the Priller market.
There's little doubt The Tuono is a cracker bike, that's pretty unanimous,so maybe as a sunny day toy,it might work out ok.

The Jap naked bikes are worth a look too. I love my Z1000,Mofo loves his topbox Suzook and the Cheese loves his bender Homda.

Yes it is the same engine. Totally different chassis and feel to ride though. Heavier too I believe, so not sure that would be for him?

There is a bike shop 6 miles from me that always has an MV or two in for servicing when I go in.

I'll have a look at whats for sale around here, so at least I can sit on one for size.

No particularly keen on that. Already have a bike for riding on gravel roads, and doubt I could ride on gravel any faster on that than I can on my 450 Himalayan.

And at 89bhp, its less than my 675 Street Triple puts out, and would be worse on the road with those tyres at least the Street Triple has sticky tyres.

Nah, if I had to ride an Indian, it would be the FTR.

Ditto, but I'd hold way back and see what happens to support now Polaris have sold off the brand to a private equity firm.

That's what I would suggest too. I had a 990R but it would be 15 years old by now, the newer 800s are just as quick, lighter and look gorgeous.

Just having a look on coches.net in your price range (assuming you haggle)

Ducati Supersport 950
1290 Super Duke
Monster SP
Ninja 1000
Z900SE

Tuono V4 Factory but it's in Bilbao
https://motos.coches.net/ocasion/aprili ... 794996.htm

1290 Super Duke in Saragossa
https://motos.coches.net/ocasion/ktm/12 ... 802687.htm

1290 Super Duke R EVO in Alicante
https://motos.coches.net/ocasion/ktm/12 ... 743807.htm

That's 15 pages in to my search criteria, you can do the remaining 175 pages yourself. I searched for bikes between 10-15k, there's 54 MV's in there somewhere.

Did Ducati actually sell any 950 Supersports, they seemed like a totally pointless model to me. I don't think I've ever seen one in the wild, only in showrooms.

1. It's not a Panigale
2. It's a Monster with a fairing.
3. Either you want a Monster, or a Pingale, not a half hearted hybrid.
