Harvest time. 🥕

Lady Dodgy gets quite excited this time of year, reaping the rewards of the veggie plot. Had to dig out the old, battered and bruised decorating table for the garage and erect under the gazebo. It's now covered in shallots, these will make far too many pickled onions, or pickled shallots, not quite sure.
She has garlic cloves drying in the greenhouse, which brings me nicely to the cucumbers, about 8 inch long now and tomatos doing well next door. Never ending lettuce is already being consumed. Still plenty more in the coming weeks, including my fave, beetroot.
Exciting time's indeed.

My rhubarb has gone viral this year.
Just thought I'd share,though I'm not sharing any rhubarb with you lot.

(Golf ball sized, roasted for pref but other ways, including juiced, are fine by me
).
Never been into veg gardening but had a few years of v successful chilli production. 🌶 🌶 🌶 'Apache' was particularly good.

Strawberries in industrial sized guttering on a south-facing wall here. Keeps the slugs at bay and 15 plants can provide a surprising amount of strawbs on a regular basis during the season; i.e. now...

We have a few tomato plants out - looking forward to them (I think we put them out a bit late tbh).
The allotment patches though are utterly overgrown with weeds, so much so I'm thinking a scorched earth campaign is the only option....

Up here in the frozen north, the garlic is some way off, the shallots are shallnots. Lettuce is still weeks away. Broad beans have a few very small pods on them. Herbs on the other hand are all doing very well. (Oregano, Thyme, Rosemary, sage, mint)
Since the council stopped spraying the track at the side of us we are getting infested with Rosebay Willowherb which has somehow managed to find it's way into my raised wooden planters. Only way to get rid of it is to Nuke from orbit

Rhubarb doing well, Tayberry is rubbish(I may have pruned it back too much last year). Redcurrants are bonkers and I managed to net them before the birds noticed them. Lots of Blackcurrants developing well.

I sowed my tomatoes and cucumbers a bit later this year, so plenty of flowers coming through, but the plants are only at half height, so a while to go yet I reckon.
Having said that the weather forecast looks proper hot this week coming, so the greenhouse might supercharge their growth
Cut and come again lettuce is doing well, as are the strawberries, albeit the slugs are beating me to most of them.
Didn't bother with much else this year as last year was shite - the slugs ate almost everything I planted out

Yeah we've got cucumbers now, I don't know how many she thinks i can eat in a week, after all, they're only just nice in a sarny or summot.

My rhubarb patch has had at least 5kg taken out of it, rubarb and custard pie was nice.
Our cherry tree survived the pigeon's this year, we took 3kg off of it but then went to Madrid for 9 days, came back to loads of wasps having had a feast.
Just been given two chilli plants by a neighbour, straight into the greenhouse, just need to remember to water them.
Last year I grew some garlic, it was so much better than anything I've bought, really sweet smelling when harvesting too

Probably 2kg or redcurrants and about the same black currants ripening. A good punnet of gooseberries and still loads of rhubarb.

Pickle them! Then you can have cucumber and pickled cucumber sarnies

I've been having a go at growing veg for about 15 years now. I've tried all sorts and different approaches.
I only do a single variety of tomatoes now, Tomatoberry.
These are the three pots on the roof, there are more down in the garden but I haven't looked after those so well and they're not as good.
I've had quite a few off them already but there are plenty more to come.

I think tomatoes have enjoyed the hot weather a lot more than other stuff, runner beans ain't happy with the heat for sure. Even Montys had trouble.
