Some parts of the Wild Atlantic Way are pretty good if the weather is nice... I'd say better that most British coastal roads.

The Atlantic Road in Norway is not too shabby.

The Grossglockner in Austria is good too.

A verdict on the Transfagarasan Highway should be available in August.

The road to the Eurotunnel. :D

I rode the Bwlch y Groes many years ago but, tbh, I didn't know it was iconic at the time and spent a lot of time riding nice (and sometimes erm...interesting) Welsh roads...'cos I lived there

It rained.

A lot.

Locally, the Antrim coast roads and glens would be hard to top. Best ridden early as it soon becomes choked with cyclists, tour buses, camper vans and dog slow drivers.

I think it depends on what you want and when you do it, in the 90s I'd have told you the A6 from Buxton to Matlock was the best road I'd ever ridden, now it's not for a few reasons and I'd rather do a 20 minute session at Cadwell.

Most of my memorable routes just sort of happened in finding interesting routes between a and b with the help of a GPS.

eg on a short holiday in France* I happened upon a road between Baugé-en-Anjou and the Moulin Bleu and Bourgueil through some magnificent, old royal hunting forests. Not a long trip but a memorable one that I'd do again, then head into Saumur for lunch. :D

Lots of nice twisty routes found on planning trips down to Flash's too.

* We'd been on a Flash tour then headed back up to meet Bobby from Visordown days and guide them down to his partners sister's (iirc) holiday place where we stayed in the barn conversion. (Don't think he'd ridden in France before and he had no bike satnav).

That's a fantastic photo of that bike - looks ridiculous, in a good way.

I have fond memories of massive sweeping bends through the Black Forest in Germany somewhere.

The N260 through the Pyrenees is a good one.

The Sedlo pass in Montenegro is lush.

So many lovely roads have just been happily stumbled on though, no idea of most of their names!

There were lots of great roads before speed cameras were invented 😉

Just wondering if the author of that article has ever ridden any of those roads, or just read about them...

Not that I've ridden any of the others mind (well I've ridden parts of the Coast of Britain, but nowhere near all of it), but I wouldn't even class the Bwlch y Groes in the top 10 of riding roads in Wales FFS!

This forum NEEDS a facepalm emoji badly...

You're a lucky man, Antrim is stunning (well to be honest, most of Norn Iron is!)... The coastal roads are fantastic there, but yes definitely get choked up with tourists at times...

Ridden it half a dozen times in the last seven months. That more months than the number of cars I've seen on it.

A Big one I reckon. Looking at it, I’ve possibly done a third. I was due to set off Monday to do another chunk, but things have got in the way.
