Unfortunately, quality of video doesn't show too much detail - but I anticipate it would be runny & brown'.

@The Spin Doctor believes is termed 'a finely-judged overtake'
Prior to seeing the bike, the GPS logged me at 51mph, down to 38. And I was able to move slightly sideways.

I'm generally of the belief that the biker has the situation under control, even if the car's don't think so.

I doubt the bike would of gone head on into a car.

Indeed. Applying firm braking and moving left (mindful of the earth bank).
Looking at the final pic, it looks to me as if his foot is above the centreline. If so, the pannier will have been some way across it.

The one he took looks fine to me. Its power or brake . We've all been there, yes its a tight one, not the first or last.

It probably looked OK when he started. Then he had an issue, brake or go for it. He decided to go for it. I worked, just.

Only because someone else (Horse) took avoiding action. If Horse hadn't the rider would have done what? Move into the car on their left and hope they can squeeze in? Or ride into the ditch on the other side of the road?
I can't remember if it was when I was learning to drive or ride (both were a while ago!) but I was told that anything which forces another driver to take avoiding action is bad driving. I tend to agree with that assessment.
BTW, that rider is also executing this dodgy overtake on the approach to a T-junction (hence the long white lines, and the fact you can see it in Horses pics) so it's a double naughty no-no
If one of those cars had turned right I'm sure the biker would be annoyed at the SMIDSY which is partly their fault.

At best he would have lost a pannier. If you'd been sat where I was, you might - literally - view it differently.
FWIW, those white line markings are 9m long.
He made a mistake. He was lucky, there was no skill involved. I probably lost more speed by braking than he could by accelerating.

Although he's just visible in one pic as he moved out, he would probably have made the decision earlier. So, really there were two poor decisions (in perfect 20:20 hindsight):
First, there was plenty of room as long as no oncoming vehicles. Which isn't a great basis for planning ...
Second, not aborting as soon as I came into view. At that point, any time spent dithering over decisions is wasting time and distance.

Horse was going too fast and caused emotional distress to the poor biker.
Dr.Skub suggests Horse proceeds at a much reduced pace in the future.

As an aside, it’s unusual to see a GS without a battery of extra lights on it. Has he even switched off his drl’s?
