Driving Licence Cat A Entitlement

Is there any reason to have class A entitlement on your driving licence if you haven't done your bike test?
Showing from and to dates on a friend's licence. I've suggested they go and buy a bike. Assuming it's an admin error, have heard of people losing their entitlement and having a battle to get it reinstated.

Yep, go buy a bike.

Year's ago I remember someone saying they sent their licence off and on it's return they were entitled to drive/ride everything. Win some, lose some.

What number is in the last column of the A row?
You'll probably find that there's a number other than 01, that means there's a restriction on the category, he can probably drive a trike, but not a bike or that it's provisional, etc...

Is there a letter/number in the code section next to Cat A, sometimes you can ride a trike but not 2 wheeled moto?
KF beat me to it:)

seem the most common is A with 79(3) in the right hand column, It means you can ride a trike, which I think also covers bike and sidecar or if you can find one, a sidewinder

Yep, it's 79(3) the disappointment is palpable

Mrs D has a full bike licence.
No idea how to ride a bike

DVLA admin error, they sent it back with full cat A, it doesn't have the 79 thing.

The dates just show when your provisional entitlement is valid from …… everybody has it on their license but the 79(3) is the restriction on the license . If it says 01 that’s a restriction to say the rider needs to wear glasses/contacts for the license to be valid

Another option is a Piaggio MP3 or Yamaha Tricity.
I am thinking about getting a Tricity 300 next year.

If the wheels are the wider track version, you can ride the MP3 on a car licence. The actual regs are pretty confusing, but worth checking. Can't remember about the Tricity.
