I need to buy a new mattress - having lived in Germany, where every second shop was a mattress one, I paid little notice.
But I want one delivered to the door
I have always bought IKEA ones - but the reviews they get are a bit stinky!

Anyone got any experiences?

I've got an Emma.

Didn't like it much at first, it was much firmer than the old traditional mattress, so much so that we fitted a plush topper.

It now has the support of a memory foam mattress with a bit of give like a traditional and I quite like it.

Bought a proper one* (Hypnos) from John Lewis but never bought a mattress on a box.

(They delivered, put it on the bed and took the old one away).

* Got totally fed up with foam ones. Had 2 Tempur.

We’ve got an Emma one.

Second one, the first one started to hurt the OH’s back so we got onto customer services.

After a bit of to and fro including us sending a picture showing it sagging slightly we got a replacement.

Anyway we find it great, and that’s coming from an extremely expensive Hypnos before.

We like Emma memory foam mattresses. Ours replaced a huge sprung jobbie with feather and down topper.

Albeithe first Emma got dementia and was replaced under warranty.

They arrived rolled and compressed. Cut open the bag (cutter provided!), unroll, leave to expand (couple of hours).

Bought 'in a box' sprung hobbies, always felt a bit flimsy.

We had a Dunlopillo one. It was heavy but lasted well. I think the NHS use them, or that type. Quite expensive but didn't get too sweaty iirc.

Oh - it's usually possible to get discounts off full price.

I've seen Emma mattresses in the middle aisle at Lidl, only singles mind.

A colleague has just bought a factory reconditioned one. Apparently people do send them back on the 200 night trial thing, Emma replace the outer and sell them super cheap.

Several years ago now (12?) I bought a sleepeasy #spelling for my campervan that came in a box.
Combined with a wooden slatted bedframe from a mobile home = Without doubt the most comfortable bed I have ever experienced and probably my biggest regret about selling my camper !

We've got a separate memory foam 'topper' if you simply must have the NASA derived sleep technology.

Tried the Emma/ Simba etc and just couldn’t get on with them.

I had an IKEA one for a while, (pocket sprung) and I thought it was excellent. Unfortunately it disappeared into the house when I split up from my ex.

I've used one of the memory foam ones - it lasted the 100 days ok, but then developed distinct troughs: it had memory alright...

Now I'd be quite happy to spend money on something proper, decent and well-reviewed: a good night's sleep is worth it.

After a while, you'd rotate/flip it and think 'Aaah. That's better!'. Until the second night. So yep, the memory seems to remember the wrong state rather than the right one.

I thought Premier Inn mattresses were Hypnos (I thought they actually bought Hypnos) but apparently they changed to Silentnight in 2023. Silentnight make them to their spec. Usually have a decent night's kip in a PI so, at the price, I'd say that's a good call.

(We picked our mattress after a hotel stay were I'd had the best night's sleep in ages. Just the right firmness etc. I stripped the bed back to check the make/type and there was a rota for turning and vacuuming on it that the hotel had added. ).

For the money it's worth a gamble I think, of course hotel mattresses will be well bedded in by the time you get to sleep on them, and personally I've always had a few sherberts before sleeping in a hotel so my opinion of quality of sleep will be distorted

Still, I'm not the one who needs convincing

Emma have a 10 year guarantee. Our dementia mattress was replaced after about three years. Sent proof of purchase and photos of the sunken areas, replacement arranged.

The 200 night trial is to decide whether you like it or not.
