Best can be completely relative to the why, but let's go with it.

Mine was an xr3i in dark grey, just an awesome thing and was the perfect car. I only sold it due to getting a company car.

Big shout out for the current Transit Custom though of course. We e had adventures!

I had a 90 Spec 'Big Bumper' three door MK2 Golf GTi, but it was only the 8v. It was a bit tired by the time I got it for £450. Went surprisingly well.

I think my E92 BMW 330i was my favourite, it was my first 'premium' car after a string of old shitters and it was the fastest car I'd owned at the time.

I still miss my 1993 MX-5 / Eunos Roadster with the pop up headlights. That car was about as pure as a car gets, unless you get into silly stuff like Caterhams. It just felt completely sorted and together within 100m of setting off.

My fave other car is probably my current one, but it's made by the bunch I work for so I never say what it is. Other than German and hitting quite a few of the big 4. :obscene-birdiedoublered:

Mine was 8v too, but only about 4 years old when I got it. Dads neighbour was the local vw dealer and took it in part ex, knew I was looking and did me a cracking price

Most fun - Toyota Celica VVTL - i 190bhp T-Sport - the model with high lift cams which opened up around 5500rpm and IIRC revved all the way up to 8000rpm, you could certainly feel it when the cams opened up. It was bags of fun, ate tyres (Pirelli P Zeros) for fun and stuck to the road like it was on rails, as commented by the copper who tried to keep up with me through a series of roundabouts, :D just after he confirmed he hadn’t stopped me for speeding but for the illegally spaced number plate :wtf:

Best all-rounder - boring answer, current 520D xdrive estate, I can drive for hours and not feel it, massive load space, well spec’d and the only car I’ve kept for more than 3 years for as long as I can remember. Mileage is creeping up now so I may look to upgrade / change once I’m through my probation period and when I get access to the company car salary sacrifice scheme which I believe is all electric vehicles

The car I wish I’d never sold - first car, 1972 Hillman imp, mid engined, rear wheel drive, light as a feather and thoroughly enjoyable as a 17 year old. In the 2+ years I owned it, I learned how to change a clutch, brake shoes, braze the radiator, take apart and rebuild Hardy Spicer CV joints, replace drive donuts and rear dampers due heavy right foot, prep a car for being resprayed amongst lots of other maintenance tasks, all under the watchful eye of my dad.

Toss up between a VW Scirocco (late 70s version) and an MX5 (the one after the pop-up headlight version) for the fun we had. Really it's all tied in to the times I think.

Edit: the best all round, practicality etc etc was (for quite a while) a Volvo V70 2.5T. The one that got most attention but wasn't really much good was a Citroën CX.

After 20 years in Mondeos, I got a bit of brass and bought a 3.2 V6 Audi TT. Had all the extras and awesome Bose sound system. The V6 engine sounded amazing and the 4WD was cool at TLGP :D

Sod the stupid toys and willy waving image. For me it was a Mk4 fiesta Diesel. Never broke down not matter what abuse i gave it. Parts were cheap and it was fantastic in the snow and ice. Had one two years before it was to rusty to weld and the next one was £200 with a years MOT. Ran that till the MOT ran out but also rust was to much to repair. Was looking for a third but what was around at the time was asking silly money. Present Citroen DS3 could be a contender after i change the worn suspension.

2CV. We had two kids and no money. It was perfect and if we hadn't become so used to modern comforts, would have another. Great little car.

BMW 523i

Favourite because I fell asleep at 70 mph on the M1. It hit the central reservation - I lived and we just carried on.

When someone mentions 2CV all i can think about was this 30 something year old woman in one at the lights in York. She was petrified of something staring at the lights and no blood showing in her knuckles as she gripped the wheel. When the lights changed she just sat there until the cars behind started beep horns. Would i have one? Hell yes but it would need to be a 2nd car for town use only.

Volvo 940 LPT, went everywhere did everything, comfortable, cavernous boot was fantastic with 2 kids and it was absolutely reliable. I traded it eventually with 200k on the clock but someone local bought it and we still kept seeing it for another 5 years.

Gotta say I'm having immense fun with the '96 F350 & enjoying the reaction it gets. :)

Suzuki Cappuccino. The first time I drove it to work somebody asked me what it wanted to be when it was grown up. :D
A superb handling car, small enough that legal speeds seemed fast, enough performance to be fun. Not much fun on motorways or dual carriageways, but what car is?

My Norris spec Evo 8 which I should’ve never sold was the best car I ever owned. Fully built running 560bhp, it was an absolute weapon on the road with all supporting mods for handling including Ohlins coilovers, big brake kit plus the best tyres etc etc.

It was bike fast, I’d regularly go out and harass bikers at the weekend and wipe the floor with them, useless bastards 👀😂
