Japan: Going in May - any suggestions?

I have been to Japan about 10 times with work - so I am familar with the way it works, and Tokyo and Yokohama area.
Other than that I haven't seen much outside of that great metropolis - other than a soy sauce manufacturer is the foothills of the Alps and Kamakura and the Big Buddha.

The plan is Tokyo , Kyoto, Hiroshima, Mayajima, Hakone and perhaps Takayama.
It's a two week trip - so no chance to go to Hokkido or Okinawa.

Am I missing anything essential?
Travel will be by train

Thanks

You're hitting all the main spots, but I'd definitely add Kanazawa for its samurai vibe and Kenrokuen Garden. Also, if you're in Hakone, Owakudani is a cool volcanic hot spring spot. Other than that, looks like you've got it covered! Enjoy the trip!

I know nothing about all the listed places but my first thought of going to Japan would be to visit Yamaha and the other 3 plus Toyota.

Miyajima island - easy day out from Hiroshima -you can get the tram there from the middle of town.
I spend all my time in Japan in Kyushu - Volcanos and hot springs and Inaka

Check the distances and travelling times on the trains.

You’ll be travelling to 6 places in 14 days and really don’t want to spend all your time on a train. A 5 hour trip is nothing unusual.

The rookie mistake I made when I went.
