I was offered it for a price that I couldn't pass up so I bought it



I don't have a full bike licence at the moment so cant ride it it but plan on trying to pass the tests this spring/summer.
My brother had to collect it for me and rode it yesterday from Clacton to Watford and by the time he got back
it looked like it had been around the world and never washed (that pic was taken a few mins before riding it home)
Planning to clean it on Saturday so will post before and after pics then.

Only things I want to change on it at the moment is the mirrors, I put bar end mirrors on the van van but there's only about 10mm
clearance between them and the gate posts so would like to try find some long stalk folding mirrors that don't need any tools
to loosen or tighten them for folding. I will probably put the touring seat on it and at some point a rear rack and top box.
But these will wait until I have full license.

I still have the van van but will sell that if and when I get the full license.

The old style bar-end mirrors have a built-in mechanism for folding them in. It looks like the ones on the Van-Van may do it - couldn't you just swap them over?

Any "normally-mounted" long-stalk mirrors won't have a "fold-in" mechanism because that would introduce a "loose" section to the assembly (no matter how strong the spring in there) and they would then vibrate like your girlfriends favourite object at all times and be useless (as mirrors...)

Congrats on the bike - nothing like giving yourself a target to aim for.

When cleaning prioritise those engine cases. They're 'naked' aluminium and will corrode quickly and then you'll need to break out the polishing wheels and all manner of tinctures.

Very nice, always liked them. Top bombing. Is that the one that was for sale on here?

BTW if it was ridden home on salty roads,I'd not wait almost a week to clean it,or you may be in for a shock. At least hit it with a hose/cold water and spray on some ACF50 in the meantime.

Yup, its a brand name, they work really well. A few of my mates have had them for years, flip them in and out a couple of dozen times each ride without any issues.
